Whats the best place to jack up the sport with a proper trolley chack...i was thinking just behind the wishbone on the chassis section? Mike

If you try to jack off chassis you will probably find must jacks will not go high enough. Jack off the wishbone, there is an indentation which should locate the jack ok.
Landrovers advice is to jack off designated points under chassis but provide a unstable sissor jack and lots of people have confused rear nearside point with air compressor cover which has then been damaged.

Jack wise I have proper pro 3 ton jacks and stands...but I guessed there was plenty more to consider than a discovery Mike

2014 Facelift Discovery

I use a 3 ton trolley jack, and have substituted the removable cup for a custom made plate (an engineering company turned it up for me for a few pounds), that has a locating peg, that locates in one of the four jacking points on the chassis, so it cannot slip. I have faced the plate with a piece of leather, so it won't scratch the chassis when lifting.

The white bit is the custom plate, the black disc on to is thick leather.
The disc is 90mm overall diameter, stepping down to 60mm (with the leather on), with a 14mm pin to fit in the 15mm locating hole in the chassis.
Underneath the plate is a 30mm diameter pin, 35mm long, to fit in the hole in the jack, where the original cup fit.

Not sure on the size of the hole/peg but would a large size bolt mounted from the underside of a flat plate do the same jog of locating the jack lifting point.
