Tell em to av a look at the turbo air intake pipes?
See if the inner lining has come adrift, loose and blocking the air flow whilst under suction ?
It's happened many times before. Big Cry

Well I have been back to dealer today to ask what they have done so far, which there explanation
seems to be plugged computer in checked cam sensors and timing sensors which are ok but they still insist
that the engine needs replacing? Shocked
When asked have they checked the EGR Valves answer no, when asked had they checked the fuel line from tank to pump and the outlet answer no, given that there are no warnings lit up no sensors showing faulty, ho can they assume that a four year old car needs a new engine, Evil or Very Mad I am amased to say the least in our these people run dealerships, which they are still going to report to LR that it requires a new engine Big Cry
I have stated that On reply from LR if they want money from me that it's going to another Dealer for second
opinion after that I'm at a loss. Censored

Has the car got full service history? How many miles has it covered?

Reason I ask is a guy I know with a 520d which is a 53 plate (yes 7 years old) with a full BMW history had a common issue with the BMW 520d on the intake - somthing imploded Which mashed the engine. He took them to court over it, BMW left it to the final second before settling out of court + they paid his fees.

Not sure on exact figure he got but was over 5k to end the case against them.

Don't matter if your out of guarantee, the engine should not have failed.
As long as there was oil in it and not abused I would take this legal.

It has however, the services by me weren't at a LR garage but one local to me who I have used and trusted for years, and I use the service plan to book it in with him.
I have explained this to dealer who classes this as part history, I have since complained again th LR customer services who are looking into it but don't hold much luck. I have also spoken to another dealer in Huddersfield who is willing to atke it in for second opinion, so will see how I get on with that, but don't know what present dealer is going to charge, I would expect nothing since he's proved nothing but have to wait and see.
Thanks

The Law allows this, you don't have to have the car serviced by dealer (for guarantee) as long as they use LR parts
So if you have kept up the service history to book then this is a FULL service history.

About the only good law we were blessed with from Europe!!

Sounds like they just plugged the diag computer in if as you say they have not checked egr etc. RRS HSE with a few extras & a

No mention of ait intake pipes juust a big no when I asked,
I will be asking for a diagnostic report once I get the answer from LR then will need the report for the other dealer for second opinion, thanks all for info.
I am sat awaiting the answer with the usual dread of going near a dealer but this time more than usual as I have for once taken sometime of work just to chill not actually go anywhere just chill out and enjoy some pleasure driving and couldn't even get a courtesy car as they are booked three weeks in advance, right so another bum answer.

No luck they still maintain has been driven with low oil stating they measured 3.6l to go in car, funny looks like it hasn't been touched.
So LR Customer services say they may pay a small token gesture if I have a new engine fitted, so taking the car away to another dealer tomorrow for a second opinion, has been in guys for 11 days and they wouldn't release without I paid 3 hours diagnostics 306.00 or 7458.00 if I wanted the new engine fitted, so see what the next dealer has to say.

The full diagnostice report word for word is;
CAR CUT OUT WONT START
CARRIED OUT CHECKS INTO ABOVE, REMOVE TIMING COVER AND CHECK BELT AND PUMP TIMING, FOUND TO BE OK REFIR FRONT COVERS ENG NOW STARTS BUT VERY NOISY, FOUND OIL LEVEL VERY LOW TOP UP BUT STILL NOISY, SUSPECT INTERNAL ENG FAULT.
*****************PLEASE NOTE*******************************
CUSTOMER TO TAKE AWAY CAR
PRICE FOR REPLACEMENT ENGINE 7458.00 INC VAT

Now the facts, at no point would car not start, the oil was checked for oil 3 days before so where did 3.6l of oil go bearing in mind the engine holds only 6.5l and no oil sensor light shown and doubt that the engine would run with only 2.9l of oil, wow how efficient and the panels they replaced are all in the boot not refitted.

Just an update, have now found that the camshaft chain has gone, can you believe it?
The chain has smashed to peices so bits of links throughout the engine which advise says
to install new engine, should this be tyhe case on a just four year old vehicles given that the timing belt is ok but a chain has given way

Do have any warranty at all? Premature failure i'd say considering cambelts don't need changing till 105000 miles, thanks for the update, where do you go from here? Where did i see a engine and box for sale yesterday? i'll have a search.
