Shaking headlamps

I have owned my RR Sport for 7 weeks now, Smile 2010, 10reg, White TDV6 3.0 ltr HSE white/colour coded bottom plastics and love it even more than the rest but for one thing, when travelling over most 'A' roads with the usual holes and stuff I have noticed that both the headlamp beams shake about like a loose bulb or poss; loose reflectors, It's ok on smooth roads well thats if you can find one.
Has any other owners of the face lift Sport noticed this???

Thanks
Wullie Cool

yeh, mine does it when bouncing in and out one of our many potholed roads!!, my lights were actually set for a lhd car, only found this out when i took it to france in the summer, they are basically held in by clips, and very basic plastic pins sitting in rubber grommits, i dont think they can be tightened!
cheers

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I think you will find all RRS have this trait, my FFRR has it too, it's all part of having self leveling BiXenon lamps rather than adaptives - my FFRR doesn't have adaptives same for my first RRS but my second RRS did have them, all of them do the same thing, but the cars with adaptives also do a nice little dance every so often too when they do a self check. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

tim,
its more of a shoogle when you hit a bump, i dont think it is trying to re-level itself. the my10s lights are just not as secure in place or maybe the rubber grommits offer too much movement for the locating pins??

cheers

You mean you don't have adaptive headlamps (AFS).

You have bi-xenon headlamps that also includes the dynamic headlamp leveling system. The bi-xenon module within the headlamp is controlled by actuator motors which rotate the projector module on its vertical axis to adjust the beam output. (No horizontal adjustments because there is no AFS). Thus the bi-xenon module is "loose" and flexible, subject to little movements when you go over uneven surfaces etc. Don't worry.

The little dance that Tim has mentioned is actually the Initialisation Procedure which ensures that the headlamps are correctly aligned on both their vertical and horizontal axes.

The headlamp leveling initialisation takes less than 3 seconds to complete. The headlamp leveling motors are powered from their current position, which can be either the upper or lower limit or somewhere in between, to their lower position and then back to the 0 degrees position.

The AFS swivel initialisation starts less than 1 second after the headlamp leveling initialisation is activated to ensure that the headlamps are at or below the 0 degree position in the vertical axis, thus preventing glare to oncoming vehicles. The AFS swivel initialisation is completed in less than 2.5 seconds. The LH and RH AFS actuator motors are powered from the 0 degree position to their fully inboard position, then to their fully outboard position and then back to the 0 degree position.

Hope the above explains. Cool Malaysia Boleh!

bobby,
far be it for me to disagree with you, but i know exactly what wullie means with the lights, it is not doing a self levelling check, my wifes mini does this and it is very smooth for the first couple of seconds when you switch the car on, this is more of a flicker, like a loose connection when you hit a bump!
cheers

codfather, no, I do not mean what wullie is experiencing is the self-levelling check. What I meant was that with this self-levelling check feature, the bi-xenon module is not rigidly fixed, more like sitting on springs and being "bouncy" (for want of a better description!). Any small bumps "shakes" it and you see some flicker. Smile

I get it all the time. Laughing Malaysia Boleh!
