Suspension totally failing - help

I've been getting intermittent suspension faults coming up on the dash for the last month, and the service guys have been unable to find the problem. Initially they thought it was a corroded sensor, but after fixing it, the problem is just as bad. When its parked, the front left sometimes drops after a few minutes and the car is left on an angle.

It was so bad yesterday on my way to work that the car was squatting very low on the wheels and was bouncing along the road.

Then on the way home , after a few minutes of driving, it super pumped itself and was riding very very high. (no fault appeared on the dash though)

Service guys today couldn't find the problem, and it wasn't faulting when they tested it. Apparently the fault codes don't show enough information, no date and time or details on what exactly is the suspension fault.

I'm about to go on holidays this weekend, and will be taking the rangie on a 6 hour drive to the snow. I don't feel good about this at all, but I seem to be out of options ????

Anyone have ANY idea what I can do?

There were several ECUs changed in mine but they SEEMED to think that the multimedia unit in the dash was the culprit. I never drove it again after they announced they were "fairly confident" Rolling Eyes that they'd fixed it after 10 weeks of trying. That was enough for me. I think there is a list of the other ECUs that they changed in the car somewhere if you want me to dig it out? Need to ask the new owners if it's been fixed though. Whistle Bet they took off the RRSPORT.CO.UK stickers before they tried to resell it though................. Hi all,

It did it again on the way to work this morning, had to turn around and drive back home. Its being taken to the service guys again and I'll try and find out the exact fault codes that are coming up. I had "4x suspension fault do not exceed 30mph" errors within 15 minutes of each other and was bouncing along the road again.

The car just hit 100,000km...... what a coincidence.

Hey Bunny,
Not sure if this is relevant in your particular case, but can't hurt. Check the earthing of the main earth strap. (Ie remove paint, apply WD40 and retighten.) The suspension, as well as other things is earthed by it. It's under the plastic splash guard in the front wheel well. I had mine in and out of dealers chasing similar problems, with no luck, until a real expert (DPL) gave me the hint.
Hope it helps mate, good luck 4wding only starts when you have to get out the cab. Everything before that is just driving on crap roads!

Next time it starts acting up put up the 4x4 display on the sat nav screen and see what it does. 1 of the things that pointed them to it was it wasn't smoothly following what the suspension was actually doing! Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Zilch, I'm in Melbourne....

I ended up paying to replace the compressor, and it was ok for 2 weeks and then I got the suspension failure message again. Its intermittent so very little chance of it actually faulting when the mechanics are looking at it.

The car has had issues staying level when parked - the car sags to one side. It can't just me my car that has these issues?????

Which dealer are you using RRS_bunny?

I assume you are out of warranty?

I've been using Ritters (car was bought from them) but they referred it to ULR after being unable to fix the suspension problem after 2 visits.

The compressor was replaced and software updated at ULR.....

Haven't done anything since due to time constraints......

When did you buy the car, and does it have any sort of warranty cover?

Sorry forgot the warranty bit!

It was bought maybe 2 or 3 years ago, and was under warranty at the time. The warranty has since expired (sept 2009) and its just gone over 100,000km now.

IMHO I don't think its unreasonable to expect that your car would be fixable, its just a question of (unfortunately) how many $'s its going to cost if something has broken...

Given you have what I understand to be one of the best indie's in Melbourne and also a dealer looking at your issue, my feeling is you need to cut to the chase (save time and wasted $'s on dealer guessing what the issue is) and get Land Rover themselves to come and diagnose the issue.

So in the first instance I would suggest you ask ULR to get the Jaguar Land Rover Australia Regional Technical Manager to come and look at your car. You will probably need to be there to demonstrate the issue. This should hopefully provide you with the real root cause.

The issue is that as you are out of warranty they may ask you to pay for this, and then obviously pay for whatever the fix needed is.. I would lean towards claiming in good faith that such a major issue should not occur on such a young car, that is only just out of its warranty and at least have the manager turn up and diagnose before negotiating on any costs.

If they can't diagnose and fix it then I would then suggest you see if you could claim it against your insurance as a write off, or consider taking legal advise for action against Ritter's / ULR / Jaguar Land Rover Australia as clearly it is not reasonable for a 3 to 4 year old car not to be able to be fixed by the the local experts and the manufacturer.

These are just my thoughts based on some experiences I've had.... Smile Usual caveats apply, any risk is your own on any direction or action you take! Very Happy

Seriously, ask if they've checked the multimedia in the dash!! That was where the fault lay in mine!

They changed out a few other ecus before they discovered there was a prob in there! Mine was doing aLl sorts of things!
Went to super extended mode for no reason, went to raise from acccess to normal and the nose stayed down and the rear rose.

Irs maybe worth a look at that as the first time mine played up it was diagnosed as the compressor too! Replaced it and it only
Worked for 4 days before packing in again!

I was lucky, mine was still under warranty though!

Best of luck with it.
