TDV8 Exhaust Gasket

Hi Guys

This is my first post, but have been using the site for reference for some time.

I have a 57 plate RRS and love it but thought I should advise others of an issue I have at present. The exhaust gasket has gone and in order to do this they have had to remove the body from the chasis. It took them 13 hours to remove the body and 5 days latter I am still waiting for its return. Aparently there has been a tech bullitin about this?

I would advise that anyone with a RRS coming out of warranty get this checked over.

The other issue was about 12 months ago the back bearing in the transfer box went. Fortunately again under warranty.

The RRS has only cover 65K miles.

Will not change away as love the car and makes me smile every time I drive it.

It anyone wishes to see it in bit I can email pics

Richard

Holy smoke Richard! glad it was still under warranty for you. I have read this somewhere before about removing the body to gain access to the turbos etc, it would fear you having to pay to get this done!

Would love to see the pics Thumbs Up

Holy Moly Shocked That does seem rather an extreme situation just to replace a gasket! Glad you are not out of pocket on this. Pics would be really interesting Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Well guess what the dealership phoned today to say both heads are coming off and being sent to a machine shop to be drilled out and retaped.

Not happy about this surely it would have been just as cheap to fit new heads?

Meanwhile I am driving a freeloader!!!!!!!

Any advice welcome on this?

Richard

Sorry for being stooopid..... But what's the problem with the gaskets??? Are they just a inferior material prone to failing or what???

Just hope mine don't fail as out of warranty now. 2007 RRS TDV8 Stornaway Grey with lots of smiles..

It's not the gaskets, it's distorsion of the exhaust manifolds. - see below.

LS - Range Rover Sport
Title Range Rover Sport 3.6 TDV8 Exhaust Manifold
Last Modified 22-APR-2010 14:32
Category Engine
Symptom 497000 Engine Noise
Content
Issue:
The customer may complain of a whistling/blowing
noise from the engine compartment which maybe
more prominent during cold start up and, or whilst
accelerating.
Cause:
Exhaust manifold distortion.
Action:
If the above stated concern is verified please raise
an EPQR specifying the crack off torque value of the
exhaust manifold nuts. Please also retain the old
exhaust manifolds/gaskets/studs and nuts as they
maybe required for engineering investigation
purposes.
Replacement of the exhaust manifold(s) on Range
Rover Sport requires body removal. Land Rover
therefore recommend that if the above stated cause
is verified on one bank, both exhaust manifolds
should be replaced to avoid the possibility of a repeat
concern.

Thanks for the info Bob.

Is this noise prominent from inside the cabin with the windows shut?? As I can only hear a 'wooshing' noise whilst accelerating hard with the window open. BUT I thought that could be the turbos spooling up??

Anything detrimentally bad if a vehicle has these symptoms but doesn't have the rectification work carried out?? And would it be a dealer diagnosis??

Thanks in advance 2007 RRS TDV8 Stornaway Grey with lots of smiles..

This is one problem I haven't noticed - yet! From exhaust leaks I have heard in the past I would expect that if you open the bonnet and hear a hissing/whistling noise while the engine is running at constant speed you may have an issue.

Perhaps rasspe or klm can tell us what they could hear.

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay, it was like a bird chirping my wife said, yes you can easily hear it inside but is more prominent with the windows open.

I like the 9.9 hours bit mine took 3 weeks. only joking 3 and half really.

The dealer said it took 13 hours to remove the body. Warranty invoice was over £2K

It is back now, lost confidence in LR at the mo, might be parting with it for a non LR product as I cannot see an easy future with the RRS.

Have transits with less hassle and more miles and animals driving them

Richard
