Hankook tyres VERY GOOD!

Well a while ago I posted about new tyres for my Sport. I have a good friend who owns a tyre Depot (handy guy to know) how recommended that I go for Hankook tyres (275/45/20) AT the time I had Michelin Pilots and before I had Goodyear Eagle F1's fitted. TBH I was never happy with either as I felt grip was not the best esp on any off road bits ( I am a property developer so am on site time to time), also the ride was Censored poor (you felt every bump in the road) and to add insult in injury, my mondeo ST even with 19" wheels is a smoother riding car than a Range Rover!! plus the fact that it was £1000+vat to change each time. My friend told me to try these tyres and if I didn't like them he would take them back and give me what ever I wanted. result. Checked with insurance about tyres as the profile is different and they said no probs at all so I got them fitted. The price £115 fitted (including the £5 they charge to dispose of your old tyre) and I have to say what a difference they have made the grip is brilliant the road noise is non existent and the overall ride quality has improved totally transforming the Sport.

So in short don't be had by the hype that I an spending over £600 more on tyres for a boutique brand as they are better I ave tried these on and off road and they out perform in wet and dry conditions both the previous brands I have had. And the saving alone is not bad either!

I agree i have used Hankook in the past and very good i also rate the Kumho brand, why pay for something that is actually over priced and no better than less expensive alternatives Thumbs Up

I have them too, no probs so far, but never experienced off road.
Outstanding value for money, I must admit.

was on site at my latest venture a private equestrian centre and racing stables plenty of mud as we are excavating an all weather gallop that is perfectly level and banked to allow the horses to gallop at full pace. was through the mud and no problems whatsoever.

Your post made me decide which tyres I wil go for. Though what makes the difference in the ride quality then?
Is it the dimension? Because the with contis in 275/40/20 drives really sh*t...
Cheers

Interesting thread...

I've got Toyo's on at the moment and TBH I feel the compound is too soft for a 2.5 ton car and they tend to scrub on the outside edges (especially the fronts). I would be interested to know your thoughts on this with the Khumos and Hancooks..?

On my previous car (Audi S5) I had Dunlop Sport Maxx 2s and they lasted 30,000 miles (mix of motorway and cross country blats)... given this I was considering buying dunlop/conti's and the like next time around.

Any comments?

James, I am not sure to be honest. There must be some reason why "tuners" (such as OF, Hamann and others) prefer budget tyres and not the premium brands. though I have never driven any budget tyres. On sallons I have been driving the Bridgestone Touranza for couple of years now and was more than happy. On the FFRR I have contis crosscontact on also very happy. However on the RRS it is more an issue of ride quality. On the contis the car feels like driving a circuit car on local roads. And it is driving me mad Twisted Evil

coko TBH the tyre wall is far too narrow and therefore too stiff for the sport the air is not as forgiving over bumps as a normal suspension in my opinion. so by increasing the side wall you are giving a bit more of a cushion. TBH I felt the ride on the sport with 225/40/20 is pretty pathetic for a "luxury" vehicle and to be honest I tried not to drive it and take my ST mondeo instead which is a lot nicer to drive.

I had also nearly chopped it in for a Cayenne as they are a lot nicer to drive. Then i fitted these tyres and the ride and driving experience has totally transformed. I know this sounds silly but the extra height in the tyre wall has made the Sport a lot nicer to drive so much so that I am going to keep it for a while longer.

very interested in your experience with the 45 profile Hankook tyres. I too have always felt 40 profile rubber is stupid on a car of this type. One question: does it overly effect the speedo/sat nav etc due to the increased diameter?
