From memory you'll only get 5 in the sport mode IIRC, in auto you get the 6th

You can engage 6th in manual sport mode as well...just tap the shift knob forward one more time and you can lock it in 6th. In fact, this can be used as well on downhills to prevent the transmission from downshifting to 5th on its own sometimes. PJPR

It must vary between petrol and diesel. I can engage 6th at around 80kph (50mph) in manual mode Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I'll have to try this one - i know the last (both TDV6) would not go into 6th automatically in manual mode... will try tomorrow

Czech Republic 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

Last summer when I tried top speed in my S/C, my RRS shifted from 6 to 5th gear in about 210kmh and reached the top speed 225kmh with 5th gear. Is this normal? RANGE ROVER, MORE THAN A CAR, LESS THAN A KITKAT

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

MAW and PJPR01 are both right, however, there is a difference between Sports Mode and Manual Commandshift (which PJPR01 is referring to).

Sports Mode
The sport mode operates in high range only and provides enhanced acceleration and responsiveness. In sport mode the TCM uses shift maps which allow the transmission to downshift more readily, hold gears for longer at higher engine speeds, and limits the transmission to the first five gears (6th gear is not used).

Manual (CommandShift) Mode
Manual mode allows the transmission to operate as a semi-automatic 'CommandShift' unit. The driver can change up and down the six forward gears with the freedom of a manual transmission. Malaysia Boleh!
