Ok was on the autobahn at the weekend and tried it again
first I tried it taking sport mode upto 180km/h and it changed up 1st through to 6th no problem, taking it gently I could get sport mode to change up to 6th gear at 160km/h (100mph)
Next I went to command shift and took it to 160km/h in 5th and photoed the dials to record the RPM at 160km/h



Next I put it into D and backed off again until 120km/h then put it into sport mode and floored it, the car downshifted and accelerated I backed of the throttle as I aproached 150km/h and the car upshifted to 6th with no other intervention by me, kept a light throttle accelerating through 160km/h and took a pic.



Soooo in my MY08 TDV8 ALL gears are available in sport mode. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

After a little experimentation when towing my 1800kg "tintent" I thought i would contribute my findings.

Towing as normal , D , with cruise set at 60 (lazy driver).1750 rpm ish..6th gear.
when going uphill , it would downshift to 5th or even 4th....but our cruise is so lazy sometimes it wont change quick enough to catch the falling speed with out a big surge.
So i select SPORT mode at the bottom of big hills to allow it change up sooner and not labour.

It would change back up to 6th at the top of the hills EVERY time in SPORT at 60 mph in cruise.

I didnt think it would...but it did.

My car is standard 06MY build with latest powertrain software updates.
