twin electrics help please

Hi All

I have recently purchased a sport TDV8 2009 model and want to have twin electrics fitted

i booked it into the dealer for yesterday and by dinner time they had not collected my car, i rang to ask why and was told that the twin electrics are on back order from land rover untill end of april, (phone call would have been nice Rolling Eyes )

i have found some kits on ebay but the dealer is telling me that they have to be coded into the ecu as it affects the stability control etc etc etc

is this true or can i buy the electrics and fit them ourselves ( i own a garage with 5 very good technicians) but i am worried about this coding into the ecu palarva.

cheers shawn

Easy to fit and I think the ECU does need to be reprogrammed (I think!). Do a search this is something that has been discussed before, 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

From what i know on this - it is a self fit, ECU has to be programmed ONLY to turn rear Fogs off on the RRS when towing - to prevent rear view glare bouncing off a caravan - I only use trailers and bike racks so little impact - stealer job for ECU work if you cannot live with fog glare bouncing off the caravan .... I did my own on two RRS's...

Parts around £75 - DIY time around 1 Hr..... talk your stealer into updating the ECU next service and save some ££.....

Stability Censored sounds like Censored 's

Im waiting for the twin N and S towing electrics too
Thats the credit crunch - Land Rover suppliers going bust LOL

I am getting a bit twitchy as we are also away soon and I need them fitted, which Im happy to do myself

My only worry is buying an aftermarket pack and warranty issues
Although as LR farm them out the chances are my non-branded electric pack may well be made in the same plant as the official product

Who has bought aftermarket tow electrics and from where?

Or else does anyone know when the official electrics will come on stream or if any dealers have them in stock?

If you are only looking to have your ECU enabled after fitting your towbar yourself then go into WH Smith and look through any of the 4 Land Rover titled magazines and have a look in the listings of independent non-franchise specialists - for the most part they have all the latest techno equipment to be able to carry out the changes to the ECU - IIRC it's called something like Testbook or Autologic, or you could contact 10forCash over on the Disco3 forums who runs a mobile fitting service.

If you are having problems getting the towbar system then try phoning round the various site sponsors and see what they can do - not forgetting to tell them what your forum nickname is and you might even get some discount! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

well i have got a twin electric pack from a dealer in lincolnshire they are posting it to me so i get it tomorrow.

i will fit them tomoroow but don't know what to do regards the ecu code inn.

i spoke to 3 different dealers today and guess what i got 3 different answers regarding ecu coding Censored

one said all it does is turns the rear PDC sensors off automatically

one said it doesn't really matter

and my nearest dealer i usually use or did so with my disco 3 said it needed coding or the car would not work properly ie stability control would get confused indicators and lights will not work properly etc etc

i am lost for words don't know what to bloody do Big Cry

cheers shawn

I fitted LR twin electrics myself, no ECU change and have had no problems with parking sensors.

As for stability control, I've noticed no change either.

As posted above ONLY ECU impact is fogs on RRS - turned off when electrics connected to stop rear glare off a caravan.... Rear PDC etc etc all auto sensed - the issue re the fogs may even have been ironed out on newer MY's....

It is plug and play - not plug and pray this time around Laughing
