Just called the dealer. They have never heard of the latch repair kit - they said they will just adjust the rubber stops to stop the noise

Told him there was a TSB, he was not aware of it - need to stick the TSB in his face.

Thanks,

That's complete rubbish, I have it fitted on my car. It is quite new, only last 3 or 4 months, and there's not much to it.., BUT IT DOES EXIST!!! Your lazy Dealer cant be bothered to do his research!

Umbertob will put it right, he's really clued-up! Let us know the outcome, fingers crossed! Thumbs Up MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs

Just thought I would add my thanks to Brian for pointing me in the right direction in terms of his rattly tailgate solution. It may help other sufferers to know that due to a lack of Velcro in my garage, I applied a slightly different solution which has worked equally well.

Instead of using Velco, I used two small rectangles of sticky-backed felt (normally available in small sheets from most DIY sheds). Rather than applying them to the plastic lock casing (as shown in Brian's photos), I placed each of the pieces of felt on the plastic lugs which sit on either side of the fixed part of the lock - at the bottom of the door sill (into which the bit in Brian's photo fits when the tailgate is closed).

The end effect is the same, as when the tailgate is closed the felt or Velcro are actually in the same spot. It did occur to me that there may be less chance of the felt being accidently knocked off where I have put it.

Anyway, well done Brian!

A big thanks for this tip, it used to really irritate me but with all the other problems I've had with the car I felt a bit embarrassed to moan about a bit of a rattle from the tailgate.

A big thanks from me too for this info. It has got rid of the worst bit of the noise from my rear Embarassed . I'm told by my stealer that I have some loose trim that needs a new clip that will get rid of the last bit of the rattle from the back. Then it will be rattle free driving Very Happy 06 2.7 HSE Bonatti Grey - 'Beasty'

Hi guys, my RRS has been to a dealer recently to fix the tailgate upper section as it would not close properly. Now it has been fixed, a new latch was installed and now I have exact the same problem. Absolutely gutted, as suspension noise has just been fixed and now there is a new noise... Will have a look at it later today, and probably will have to take it back to LPR. Vadim A.

So it checked the tailgate just as the TSB LTB00006V2 says, and the striker loop ha no black coating. Since the new latch was installed by LPR it makes the metallic rattle noise... I will be taking it back for the fix. Damn it! Big Cry LPR is quite far away from me. But I guess once it will be fixed, the car will be dead quiet Bow down Vadim A.

That must be really disappointing, especially as LPR are regarded as one of the best there is for looking after our pride and joys... On the plus side, I bet you are enjoying the lack of noise from the front end!

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the service at LRP. Although the tailgate problem appeared after installing the new latch, which obviously was necessary and the actual problem affects random cars, there is no way they could have known my car would be affected. So no hard feelings there, I still will come back to them and will recommend them to a friend. Vadim A.

Finally, got my RRS to LPR. Checked the tailgate several times and realised that the plastic bit, which had to be removed to install a new latch into the upper tailgate section, was not installed back properly and there was a big gap between the plastic cover and the actual door itself, as if the cover did not align with the door properly. Also, I noticed a small damage to the plastic cover right where the gap is at its biggest. My RRS is 6 months old and I know it inch by inch and I know the gap was not there, but appeared after installing the new latch.

TBH it is quite difficult to understand what kind of noise I get: metallic or plastic rattling, but sounds more like plastic. If upper section is opened and if some force is applied on the lower section from inside, there is a noticeable noise, sounds like plastic rattling. While at LPR I checked another brand new RRS in the same way by pushing on the lower section alone from inside, there was no noise whatsoever... So I will be looking for the same result on my RRS Yawn i.e. exactly as it was before. Vadim A.

Tailgate Rattle Fix

To fix the tail gate rattle do the following:
Remove plastic trim over the power latch assembly (pull straight up to remove)
Under you will find two wedge rubber buffers. The problem is these move when you go over a bump causing the loop catch to move away from the the striker loop.

The solution is to place packers behind the wedges so that they dont move and the tail gate lock is always in tension when the power lock pulls it closed.

This fixed my problem like a dream. It also allows you to adjust the lock so that the tailgate is easy to close.

No more daggy velco strips required.

I also had a squeaky glass hatch which was caused by the hatch being badly adjusted from the factory and it was touching the bodywork when closed (people adjust the stoppers out to stop the squeaking but this causes the hatch hard to be hard to close). There is only 2-5mm clearance on either side. Adjusting the alignment fixed that problem. Again a very easy problem to fix.
