Rear passenger door won't open ?!?

Hi All,

Need your collective expertise again ?!?....I've today got a problem with the offside rear passenger door which won't unlock with the remote key fob - all the other doors work fine. (It's a 2005 S/C by the way)

I press the remote and all the doors unlock except this one. To add to the problem, I have the child lock function activated, (as my 5 year old has this seat reserved) so can't open the door from the inside either Shocked

I think the problem started a week ago when I had to press the unlock on the key fob a few times to get it to open but now it's given up the ghost for good Big Cry

Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution to fix - is it the lock mechanism itself ???

Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Jitzz

I get this as well, but only intermittently. So would love to know if there is a fix.

I also have this - there are several threads on here about changing the lock motor. But the motor is not cheap and it involves displacing the window glass which whilst I'm fairly confident, having seen one of the clips broken I'm not very happy with the idea!

For now get over it by using the unlock switch on the panel and at the same time gently...?.. pulling the black lever on the door... At present SWMBO has been told not to use the door......

I had very similar problem with mine. I found if you hold the latch in the unlock position while pressing the unlock button on the center console this will unlock it same as suggested by peanut. But ultimately it was only resolved by replacing the locking mechanism. The frequency of it not unlocking does increase with time before final failure in my experience Big Cry

Yes I assume you will mate as its disabled via the child lock. I would unlock it as above and just use the put side handle to open the door itself. The opening and closing of the door shouldn't be effected just the locking process or unlocking will be I would think.

Even with your new toy, order half a dozen trim clips anyway as they always break and be careful with the connection to the outer handle or you will be ordering one of those too Whistle 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱

Brilliant thanks for the linkey fellas spot on !! Very Happy

with regards to the latch mechanism, I got it from Sturgess L/R in Leicester the cost was £89 + VAT, thought it was a bit expensive but everywhere else was similar.

The one thing the guy did say that if I had a L/R warranty it would have been covered and fitted FOC Crying or Very sad

He also gave me a frightener by saying if you can't open it ...it's a new door, cos they need to prise the door skin back to get at the mechanism....apparently, they did one not long ago, needless to say I nearly soiled my trousers at this point.

I'll let you know progress later this week when I get onto it

Thanks again

Jitzz

Nice one Peanut Bow down

We've got an L494 in at the moment and the NSR door wouldn't open. Thought we might have to destroy the door card, but your trick worked with a slight modification. It was a 2 man job; one sat in the back and holding both the inner & outer handles in the open position, then activate the lock/unlock switch on the driver's door. Release the handles and then use the outer handle (child lock was on) to open the door. Thumbs Up Joe

Evening All

Resurrecting an old thread.

My offside rear door wont open.

When pressing the lock/ unlock button on the key fob I can hear the lock engage/disengage but it just won't open. Or at least it sounds lime it does.

Child lock has not been operated.

Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated Thumbs Up

It’s a replacement lock time…incredibly common on all Freelanders, Discovery’s and RRS’s

There are tiny motors (size of scalextrix) which eventually wear out… whole lock mechanism needs changing…parts are £50ish for a pattern lock or about £100 for a genuine one…

Reasonable easy but very fiddly to do…. I have now done three on our Freelanders and one on our D3…

Look on You tube for how to do it!

Cheers Farmer Chalk.

Could it be the deadlock ( I always oprate deadlock) or cable, ro resistance on pulling handle.

Is it individual motors in each I door I assume?
