Ok looks like things have gotten worse !

My original screen now no longer works ! ( when i say original i bought a second hand Discovery 4 screen ) . It worked fine when i initially tested it . ( plug and play )

I was getting lines on the android unit when i hit "original" . One time i did get sound which was good Wink

Now it just wont turn on when all connected back up.

I think something is wrong with the board that connects to the original stereo

And i think it might have to be a "Return to Sender" situation Sad

With that being said the android was blistering fast ! , just couldn't do nothing with it lol !

That's a shame! I wonder if it was when you reversed the ribbon cable, or if one of those solder bodges, ahem, bridges, caused a problem?

Return to seller never sounds like an easy prospect when the seller is in China! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

I believe it stopped yesterday, so was before i reversed the LCD ribbon ( which wouldn't do that any way )

I believe it might have been removing them bridges that could have busted my screen ( it did work after removing them )

Unsure really.. And yes its going to be joyful trying to return this !

Im also glad i bought an additional screen Very Happy as my dual view screen is a little bit more expensive !

Did the Disco 4 screen work when you fitted in the sport? How long did you leave it? When I put a disco 4 screen in my car, it shuts down after about 3 minutes and won’t fire up again until it’s disconnected and the car goes to sleep.

What’s the trim fit like? As the screen is for disco and sport I’m not sure how the bracket/trim will fit seeing as the 2 cars have different shaped dashes. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

i had it connected for a few mins and it seemed fine . Since then it had been in and out quite a few times with the android unit showing some signs of life with it . the last couple of trys it was dead without any sign of life from the unit ... so i put it all back together to test and nothing Sad

i never put all the trim back so cant say for sure , but i imagine a trim up of the clock piece will be needed.

Had a reply from the seller , stating it was fully tested.

I know for a fact they only test on a bench, so doubt they tested the PCB board that connects to the original stereo system .

They have stated they are going to send me another PCB .. which is something i suppose.
In the mean time aliexpress dispute can continue running.

Now i need to figure out if that discovery 4 screen was also faulty... Sad

If i could get another screen cheap, i could run it for a few days and make sure it works correctly before dismantling.

I have also asked for instructions for what i need to remove from the original screen, i think i had it correct as there was no where else to plug and screw it in Smile

I’ll see what I’ve got as I have a few screens and I’m sure I have a 2012/13 screen for a Disco 4 which you can have to try. My only niggling feeling is the issue I had and I can’t remember exactly but I found that the FCDIM (screen) holds an abridged version of the CCF for the AV system. On power up it compares its vehicle type code to the BCM and if doesn’t match it doesn’t bring the screen up. After I fitted a special gizmo to the FCDIM to convert the type code from L319to L320, I think I remember only 1/2 a screen working which I’m convinced was because of the BCM CCF being set to dual view and then it shut down after 3 minutes or so. It does sound like a similar issue and you maybe better off with a RRS screen and turning off the DV in the CCF. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Thank you .

Does just seem so weird, it worked perfectly first time ( before dismantle)

also seemed to semi work with the board at first.

I think you maybe right and try getting an RRS 2012 screen , Im going to wait first until they ship me out another PCB .

Thanks

Heres a video they sent me for installing the PCB

If you still have the trim, try seeing how it would fit to the dash. It does look like it would fit but the Disco 4 and Sport dash trim is different which leads me to believe there should be 2 separate adapters, one for each car. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Just been back through some records for a better idea of what happened with my install. When I fit the Disco 4 screen, I got lines on 1/2 the screen until I fitted the magic box. At this point I got the screen working but it shut down after 3 minutes. An ex LR software engineer suspected it was because I had the CCF set to DV and the Disco 4 never had it despite the maintenance manual suggesting it was an option. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Thanks that kind of makes sense . I do have SDD so maybe i can turn it off that way . But i believe i should atleast be able to see something on the screen ? ( as i did originally)

Problem is now i get no output from the screen at all. Which leads me to believe that the actual screen is now fu-bared !

Ill give it another test fit when they send me another PCB

Thanks

Looks like support has stepped in

Capacitor is actually a filter.. Engineer said it should still work ok.

Soldering bodges are meant to be there.

Looks like you change screen type in the system menu ( which i now have a password for )

Looks like an option to fit with a dual view screen setup , i imagine it fixes the pixel shift gerd1986 had on hes tesla setup , and not actually allows the use of the dual view.

They said i need to select this at first .

Unsure what happened to that discovery screen i bought as it seems dead . But managed to get a cheap RR version ( model no that gerd1986 uses ) so going to try that when it arrives . Dont trust using my dual screen one incase something is causing screens to blow.

So Next step

1.) Remove the filter i soldered back on.
2.) Receive new screen , test for a few days make sure nothing is wrong with it.
3.) Dismantle new screen and test fit PCB that i have.
4.) See what happens

Heres hoping the New RR screen arrives soon Very Happy

Ok new "Non" dual view RR screen came today .

Fitted it to test , and gonna run it for a few journeys to make sure its all good.

As i think was suggested . Looks like a "cached" copy CCF is stored on the screen . It does overwrite it though when connected.

The thing i cant believe though is how good a "non" dual view screen is . The clarity is soooo much better which i imagine the "dual view" version looses because of the pixel shifting.

This screen does look *Mint* so hopefully will be ok Very Happy

Dual View is also smaller and the plastic trim surround is different (although it won’t matter for what you’re doing).

The abbreviated/cached copy will come into play if the BCM plays up or you loose comms between them. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Ok so the support from this supplier has been good

Looking at the discovery 4 bracket .. I think it might fit ok if i remove the lugs from under the screen ( think they are for the older shape discovery screen)

They provided a weechat account . And i have 3 techs helping out

Looks like the new RR screen helped also..

Have got this far Very Happy

Only issue atm is the touchscreen is out of whack . Clicking the wrong things ! Havent tried audio as cant select AUX yet Wink

Tech said he has an update he can send me Monday .. Hopefully will fix it.
