Cam belts.

Q, if a cam belt lets go (breaks) on a 2.7 engine will the pistons contact the valves? I have just seen a cam belt that has been in a 2.7 for over 130K and it showed V little wear, the charge for renewal was £375 including the belt I am told. Bargain?

Yes the front belt will cause the clash.

The rear fuel belt isn't so much of a problem

Sounds a good price

On a 2007 you need to replace the oil pump too else you will be Big Cry

Costs about £120 from advanced factors plus a bit of labour + bolt/seal.

The belt tensioner is on the oil pump and they frequently break off after belt replacement.

Cheers Andy, what think you of 130K on same belt, don't think I would chance it? Regs JH.

I'd be more concerned about the oil pump...

Metal ware like Mike has said will be the first to fail before a belt does

I have my belts change coming up on my 2012 3.0 sdv6. Is the oil pump an issue there ? What else is worth changing out and replacing at the same time ?

The oil pump issue was on the 2.7TDV6 from around 2006-2007 (not sure of the exact time period). The problem with the SDV6 appears to be access to do the job - see https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sdv6-timing...54-15.html 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

My previous employers still lift the body to replace the belts, and are more expensive than the main dealer Rolling with laughter

My local indy I use in the west mids (Terry at Ultimate 4x4 in Dudley, recommended) confirmed can do without taking body off when I asked him about this a couple of months back.
