First the good news - now done over 700 miles and still over 1/3 original tank of petrol which cost me £40 - according to computer I'm averaging 3 miles per kW and 127 mpg Mr. Green

Now the Censored news Evil or Very Mad

I've been corresponding with Mitsubishi UK Customer Services regarding Winter Tyres and today received the following reply Thud

Quote:
Dear Mr XXXXX,

Thank you for your e-mail.

The PHEV has never been tested or homologated with winter tyres, therefore we cannot recommend having winter tyres fitted.

Yours sincerely,

XXXXX

So that means the handbook is wrong Confused

The NL website is wrong Confused

https://shop.mitsubishi-motors.nl/cat/band...bandensets

Also the PHEV must be illegal to drive in many European countries during winter where they are compulsory such as Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Slovakia and Sweden Shocked

http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/overs...tyres.html

My dealer has offered me a set of 16" Steel wheels like these with winter tyres. They are a lot more expensive than in the NL - he obviously doesn't know they can't be fitted here and I guess Brexit is to blame for the price difference not Rip off Britain Rolling Eyes

Such a shame after 2 weeks PHEV ownership to experience this kind of service - it took me 16 years to feel like this about Land Rover Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

You had better hurry up buying a series 2 then. Looks like the PHEV will be parked up over winter if it is going to be a very cold one. Big Cry

Personally I wouldn't worry about winter tyres. Look how much money you wasted on winter tyres for your RRS. We had the mildest winter for years. Laughing

It's not as though you live high up in the mountains. Just go with the wheels and tyres that are on the car and see how it copes. Thumbs Up

We all know you are looking for an excuse to return to a Range Rover... Rolling with laughter
Looks like you have just found it. Wink

You may be right Ady - I never thought about winter tyres until I got the RRS and joined this forum Rolling Eyes

We haven't had a bad winter for years so I never found out if the winter tyres work - the DS was great on Goodyear wrangler all season the 1 day we had snow last winter - the RRS was Censored on Conti Sumner tyres and all season tyres when we had snow Sad

I think the 20" wide low profile tyres was main problem with RRS but the phev has 18" narrow tyres so may be ok - I just don't fancy finding out the hard way Confused

For the last 26 years I had the option to stay at home if the weather was bad but now I live in the country will have to drive whatever the weather which is my concern Big Cry

Cheapest option would be to fit Vredestein Quatrac 5 all season on existing wheels and ditch the summer Toyo but I've also read the ground alloys don't like salt so a second set seems a good idea Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Muddy, I live high up on the pennines and we get more snow than most. I have never got to the point where I have been stuck. Yes winter tyres do make a huge difference when the weather gets really bad. The problem is, all those inexperienced drivers not running winter tyres, get stuck and block the road, so you can't go anywhere. Just to point out, I haven't always had a 4x4 either. Adjust your driving to the conditions and just hope someone else doesn't slide into you. Big Cry
If you can't get to where you need to be because of snow. Then the chances are, no one else can. So you don't really need to be there. Thumbs Up
So you can stay at home and wish you still had a RRS. Thumbs Up

I'm a little paranoid as I've had 3 crashes in snow and ice admittedly in 2wds - I agree it's the other muppets that are biggest concern though - regularly had boy racers flying past my LRs and nearly demolished by a white van man who lost it on bend coming towards us Big Cry

Apparently the hill outside our village gets blocked by wagons and cars but I could use unsalted back roads to avoid it if the phev is up to it. Weekend isn't a problem but during week swmbo and an employee in our village need to get to our business and open up Sad

Getting stuck isn't really my worry - it's stopping and steering in an emergency Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Muddy
How about a set of snow chains just in case of an emergency, I bet you would only ever require 2 and more than likely never be required and spend their entire life in the boot or under the back seat.

Lots of different types of Snow chains, even rubber snow chains.

Lets face it, you could have a BMW, now they are Censored Crp in the snow. Rolling with laughter In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Shocked Shocked

Sounds like you need to go on a winter off road driving course Muddy with that winter driving history. Laughing

Buy some of the winter socks that are available.

For the odd day we get snow, i'm sure these will be more than adequate. Even for your driving skills. Embarassed

Not sure we ever get it bad enough here for snow chains and heard they damage tyres Confused

I bought the Winter Socks for the Jag X type after I crashed it but never needed them again as I sold it PDQ Rolling Eyes

You may be right about the winter driving course Ady - apparently Police vehicles have summer tyres all year round and Fire service vehicles too - they seem to manage well enough even on emergency calls Shocked

I'm not even sure the Toyo fitted are a good summer tyre never mind suitable for winter Whistle Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Personally Muddy, i think you are worrying too much about it. Just enjoy the car for what it is. Thumbs Up

If you crash in bad weather Shocked Don't worry about that either. (Assuming nobody gets hurt) It's not like you haven't crashed before.... Laughing

Like i said, drive to the conditions of the road. Thumbs Up

i'm sure you have found this with your sweaty brow and worried fingers typing away

http://www.myoutlanderphev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=973

But it looks as if the PHEV seems to cope with the white stuff ok, and a few giving brands they have fitted if your nerves get the better of you

(on a side note, what is it with the Mitsubishi used website, list cars appear, sort by cost low to high, high to low etc, no prices displayed) Confused
