Tailgate out of alignment

The tailgate on my MY11 sport is out of alignment. The upper part of the tailgate is out, I can put my fingers into the panel gap on the right hand side next to the right hand tail lamp but not on the left. The bottom of the tailgate (the main tailgate) is the opposite, I can fit fingers into left but not right.

Car went to dealers and they said they have adjusted it as much as possible but it's exactly the same as when it went in. Has anyone else had this problem? I can visibly see the upper split is out from a distance and it really bugs me now. I think panel gaps should be even on a £55k car...

They'll probably give you the same story I've had today "its within tolerance" it's great when they even add up tolerances on both sides of the problem so they can add them up to effectively come up with an overall tolerance of double.
I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that if it comes out of the factory f Censored d its stays f Censored d because the dealers are incapable of actually fixing anything. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

There are certain measurements (with specific tolerances) to follow in adjusting the liftgate.
If they have done the adjustments accordingly and if you still find it out of alignment, then your RRS has an out of shape body! Shocked Malaysia Boleh!

Has yours got the same problem as mine?

Can other owners check their alignments on MY11 and let me know if yours is straight?

Mine's not great to be honest. The worst is trying to close the screen if I only open half the boot (which I like doing), but inevitably I'll get back in to find a "rear door not closed" warning on the dash.

Keep meaning to take it back to have it realigned, but it hardly sounds worth it!

Santorini,
No not the same as yours just a stream of similar issues which still haven't and seemingly won't be resolved as the issues are within tolerence i.e. they are now hiding shoddy quality by qualifying huge tolerances which might have been acceptable had I bought a Moskovitch 20 years ago,for example they are claiming +/- 10% on a rubber seal and as there are 2 involved the gap between the 2 can be +/- 20% as both are on their limits so error is additional so I've got a 5mm gap on something that should meet:bang: MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

my upper tailgate is a pain too. The mis-alignment is not visibly noticeable but frequently the car thinks the upper tailgate is still open when it isn't. Also, the paintwork is slightly worn as a result. ============

Here's another one for you all to check out except Autobiography models, looking at the back of your car see if your left hand side exhaust tail pipe is slightly lower that the right one, just about everyone i look at is the same from early models right upto 11 plate Mr. Green Things like this really bug me.

Yep, same here noticed it at the weekend. Must get down to dealer to discuss, but looking at comments so far I guess I can sense a fobbing off coming Sad MY2014 RRS Autobiography in Corris Grey, Black contrast roof and Cirrus interior, adaptive lights and side steps.

The opening rear tailgate window is a pain.Has to be slammed so hard it feels as if it will break. No wonder they have got rid of it now. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

Sort of gives some comfort that it isn't just mine. Are you guys all familiar with the answer Lotus owners get from dealers when something isn't quite right ......... TADTS!

I'm not sure I've seen anyone write it on here yet, but sounds like the top tailgate is certainly a case of TADTS.

tailgate out of alighment

hi guys,

appreciate this is an old thread but if anyone has this issue i thought id share some info. if you remove the spoiler ( pretty easy only 5 fixings ) the 2 bolts which hold the glass hatch section of the tailgate are then easily accessible and actually on slotted holes, so you can loosen them slightly and move the hatch section up or down on either side. this will enable you to get a much better panel gap either side from the very top at the spoiler all the way down to the plastic boot section which is connected to the glass hatch. I had a massive gap one side ( whole finger width ) compared to a couple of millimeters on the other, and you could tell the spoiler was lower on one side compared to the other compared to the roof level. this solved it as it enabled me to push one side up which in turn equalled out the panel gaps. about 30 minutes from start to finish and makes a big difference to the appearance of the car ( to me anyway ).

cheers
