Jay, it sounds like the 350D is ideal for you. I'm trying to do a deal with my dad because he hardly uses his and I want it, but for some reason he seems unwilling to let me have it for free. Confused Wink

Jay, are you still interested in a dSLR, did you get one already? Hope you didn't.

There are rumors* going around that Canon will be introducing new cameras around the 24th of August, so I would suggest holding the purchase for now and see what will be coming out.

New models mean either:
1- Cheaper prices
2- Better product
3- If neither 1&2 are true, you will get cheaper prices for the previous model(s)

Let us know how things stand for you.

* Don't hold me accountable if these rumors aren't true, I'm just telling what many people are saying. Besides, the 24th is just few days from now so it's worth the wait.

Excellent idea. I would also suggest that you don't rush buying a dSLR, because when you buy one you are actually committing into a system not just a camera. That's mainly due to lenses, which is by far the most important and most expensive item(s) in a system, not to mention flash and other accessories. It's like the decision between petrol or diesel in a way, though fuel type is easier to decide on imo Smile

Too right about buying into a system. Canon EOS 30D is a great start.

See, different manufacturers have different lens mounts, that means if you buy a Canon you can't use say Nikon lens on it. Also, accessories (like a flash or remote control and others) only work for that brand.

I will make the case for buying Canon if you are interested or close to buying a camera. Let me know.

Agree. However it will be Jay's first dSLR and he has a budget of around 500, so I think the XT/350D is the better choice. IMO of course.
