Jay, it sounds like the 350D is ideal for you. I'm trying to do a deal with my dad because he hardly uses his and I want it, but for some reason he seems unwilling to let me have it for free. |

Excellent idea. I would also suggest that you don't rush buying a dSLR, because when you buy one you are actually committing into a system not just a camera. That's mainly due to lenses, which is by far the most important and most expensive item(s) in a system, not to mention flash and other accessories. It's like the decision between petrol or diesel in a way, though fuel type is easier to decide on imo |

Too right about buying into a system. Canon EOS 30D is a great start. |

See, different manufacturers have different lens mounts, that means if you buy a Canon you can't use say Nikon lens on it. Also, accessories (like a flash or remote control and others) only work for that brand. I will make the case for buying Canon if you are interested or close to buying a camera. Let me know. |

Agree. However it will be Jay's first dSLR and he has a budget of around 500, so I think the XT/350D is the better choice. IMO of course. |
