For you Jay the Nikon D200 or for a serious bit of kit a D2Xs with a 18-200 lens. Remember with a digi SLR a 35mm lens acts like a 50mm lens due to the size of the digi sensor. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Jay, again, check out the XT/ 350D (different names for different markets). It's an excellent entry level DSLR. |

If your budget is around 500 pounds then go for the 350D + EF-S 18-55. That lens is nothing to brag about, but it's not bad either. Decent starting lens. Oh, and that's a good deal too. |

Jay, my dad uses a Canon 350D and he loves it, although he likes photography, he doesn't do it that much, and isn't a pro. He has just bought a new camera for the holidays because he finds his DSLR to big to carry around. If you are really serious about learning how to work the camera and taking some awesome pics, then a DSLR is the way to go, but if you want to get some nice pics without the hassle of carrying around a load of kit and having to learn how to use the camera, a simple point and shoot is all you need. I use a simple Nikon Coolpix 7600 which I reckon is similar to yours which is great for getting easy pics of cars, family days out etc. A DSLR is in my 3 year plan of things I want to buy, because I want to get more into photography, and I reckon it'll be better than my point and shoot. 2002 Discovery Adventurer LE

Excellent advice from Andy. And that's what I've been telling Jay all a long. |
