Very informative thread this - most helpful. I have run winter tyres on my FWD Audi for the past 2 yrs and about to put them on for a 3rd season still with plenty of tread on them. They are excellent in performance and confidence building once temps get below 7-8c.

With respect to the RRS, and given that quality tyres are usually the wise choice, does anyone have any recommendations for a good set of 4 winter tyres, likely 20"? I have diamond turned alloys and usually use the (excellent) Event Tyres to put on/take off my winters and other tyres. I would also be intending to use the car off-road this winter on primarily wooded tracks/muddy farm and forest roads so this may factor into tyre choice.

Anyone tried the Dunlop SP WinterSport 4D as an alternative on a RRS? Excellent review ratings (and plenty of them), but not necessarily on 275/40/20's.
