Sorry to hear that diver! Big Cry How many is that now on the forum? Mines is booked in on the 17th to get the belts/service done? Praying it holds on till then!! With regards to the tensioner itself, is that something that can be replaced/serviced? Or is it part of the bloak that is failing? Scary times!!! Here - Range Rover Sport MY05 HSE (Changes coming)
Here - Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo MY12 (60+ mpg)

Gone - Long list of unsuitable cars for me a wife and two kids including Impreza's and VXR's

I am in exactly the same position as you. Need to find me a TDV6 engine too.

My only issue with a "re-conditioned" engine is that JLR, and PSA (who build the engine) have not released any bottom end parts for this engine. You cannot buy pistons, or rings, or big end or main bearings...
SO how can they be re-conditioned? Confused

There was a thread on D3 about a company called Global Engines: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic80614.h...al+engines

Not sure what to do, but I do know a 2.7 TDV6 from a D4 is around half the price of a 2.7 TDV6 from a D3... Currently trying to find out what the actual differences are. Would rather buy a genuine LR recon unit, as they can at least get the parts themselves...

The tensioner is included in the cambelt kit Thumbs Up

However, on the 07/08MY's, they modified the oil pump casing, that the tensioner bolts onto. It is this casing that fails, causing the tensioner to fall off the engine, resulting in 1 Censored engine... The oil pump was modified again, and beefed up on 09MY's Whistle
The EU3 (05/06MY's) do not seem to suffer from this problem.

Diver, your problem is an increasingly common problem. How many miles have you done? I assume the cam belt tentisoner broke from the oil pump casing, in which case I have very specific experience of this. You should take it up with LR as a catastrophic failure of the oil pump and get them to supply a new engine. I did!

Let me know if it looked anything like this.....

This is a scandal - I think everyone who has had a ceased engine needs to get together and start pressuring Lr Evil or Very Mad

Individually you are easy to fob off but as a group you have more power Bow down

Taking into account mileage and fsh this is inexcusable and reminiscent of the watchdog TD5 story - no excuse Banging Head Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

This may well fall under the Sale of Goods Act. Under this legislation you have 6 years (5 in scotland) to place a claim. Therefore if your car has failed within this period due to a design flaw (which this clearly is) or poor workmanship then you have a case to claim against the retailer that sold you the car. I'm not sure how or if it applies against LR themselves as by "retailer" I assume it means the dealer although they may qualify as an "agent" of LR, you'd have to look into this yourself, perhaps a word with trading standards or your local C.A.B. would help. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Hi every one, as you are all aware my cam belt tensioner had broken resulting in one defunked engine.
I cannot stress enough my appreciation to all of you for such accurate and prompt information. With this information, I was able to challenge my LR dealer 'in a polite manner’. The dealer has now spoken to LR. I was informed this morning by my LR dealer, that LR will pay 100% of the cost to fit a new engine. My only costs are the labour time to diagnose the problem £300.

Thanks to my dealer and LR
This wonderful site along with its sister Disco3 is what the web was created for, to give accurate and up to date information-
Martin thank you for a wonderful site and your kind accurate advice, bodsy mechanical genius keep up the great work.
Am one happy Diver
thank you
