United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

My wife's car stopped at the weekend and has ben diagnosed as having a broken tensioner and broken a lug off the engine block.

The car is an 2007 car with 64k miles and a RR history and a specialist history with official RR parts always used.

The car is being transferred to UK RR Dealer to have it diagnosed and all receipts forwarded to the dealer.

Dirtybarry, you need to really push this, if your dealer doesn't get you a free replacement, then you need to speak to the exec office, director of customer service and force the issue as this is a KNOWN FAILURE.

There are many instances of this issue for the MY07 and 08 engines.

The cause is a weak design of the oil pump casing.
They have changed the design 3 times in 18 months and the current version has much stronger webbing at the bolt points.

Do not accept anything other than a new engine FREE OF CHARGE.

They will ask you to pay for the investigation work (3 hours) tell them they can pay for what they already know the fault to be.

There is nothing that you can do during a normal service that would affect this failure or be able to detect any imminent failure. I get quite angry at these failures and the amount of people that have had to pay full whack instead of LR admitting to their engine design failures. I had done 101k and had change the timing belt and all the idlers 1000 miles before. I had a mixture os LR and non LR servicing (always genuine parts though) you need to be clear with what it is you want from LR. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Sorry Bodsy, I've been away and I'm just returning to this.

Thank you so much for your help. The dealer has supplied the information to RR and RR Customer Service has been back a few times requesting further information. I'm still waiting and my wife is going out of her mind as she is having to borrow cars and lifts until this is resolved.

Thanks Thumbs Up

Spain

I have an 08 Sport that I keep in Spain will be 5 years old in June, it has only covered 55 000 kilometres circa 34 000 miles with FLRSH and I had the cam belt changed when the car was 4 years old.

Land Rovers so called extended warranty runs out when its 5 years old, so I am toying with the idea of a new oil pump now could work out to be a LOT cheaper than a new engine, hence I have just fired an Email off to the local dealer in Spain asking for a quote to supply and fit the later pump as fitted to the 3 litre engine part number LR013487. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Update:

Range Rover has agreed to replace the engine including labour! Fair play to them, they are giving 100% contribution towards a "replacement engine" including labour.

I'm told we should have the car back next week.

Thanks to Diver and Bodsy for the assistance, top guys!
Thumbs Up

Got the car back and all good. Thanks to Bodsy for suggesting a check of the brake pipes - just as well they were checked as the pipes from the back were rotten and needed replacing. The car is up for MOT in a few weeks time and it would have failed the MOT so thanks Bodsy!

Bow down
