I would strongly urge anyone with this type of engine failure particularl MY07 and MY08 to push with their dealer for an LR replacement. TBH, I would still push them for the diagnostics as LR tried charging me the same for something that I had already sent pictures of to them and the diagnosis was pretty crystal clear. They quickly rescinded. Timing Belt Tensioner still attached to the broken piece of the Oil Pump casing.

The key to this, is that there are NO service checks that can be done to the oil pump case during normal LR service schedule, so as long as you are under the 105k miles and have a service history (doesnt need to be LR as long as its been to spec and at the right intervals) then you should push LR for a full replacement.

When mine went, I had 17 other evidenced cases of the same failure, now, I think I could get nearer 35.... These are only the ones that go on forums and the like, think of the poor who just pay up....  Bodsys Brake Bible

Bodsy one question to the expert does the same goes for the TDV8 MY07/08 (if I am correct it is the same engine as TDV6+2V) ?

My Local dealer looked at my car yesterday and with an hour or so said it needed a new engine. £130 for first investigation and all i think they did was turn the key to see if it started!
From what the guy said it sounded like it started and tried to run but was making horrible noises so they stopped it. After the first conversation I asked him to go and price a new engine (not complete) which came back at £10500 not fitted!

After i had picked myself off the floor i asked them to continue their investigation (another £200) to see what had happened.

Think I'm going to struggle with this one
