Today's Task - Twin Electrics Install

Today's task was fitting the double electrics into my RRS.

Firstly, had ordered single (7pin) electrics from dan@duckworths but they arrived as single (13pin). Dan very decently sent out twin 7s on a swap out for the same price, so fair play and thanks to him Thumbs Up

I have an HSE with PDC so there please bear in mind if you don't (ie less connectors)

The kit comes with a paper manual, which is pretty clear but not perfect. First thing to note is that it says you will need a 6mm allen key, a phillips and a cutting tool but you will also need a pair of pliers for the earth. I would also recommend a long philips in order to not interfere with the bumper when installing the sockets. It is solely diagrams and you are left to interpret what is what. So I thought I would take some pics to try & match the instructions.

Kit + tools

Remove NS tail light (two philips on the right and ease out)

Insert plate into left hole & use 4 20mm bolts as provided (why is it like this & not same on both sides?)

Insert plug into right side with 3 of the 40mm bolts. Easing the wires through is a bit fiddly.

White plug on the left...

6mm Allen key to undo the tie-down bolts

Once out, you can pull (gently) the panel out

Don't forget to pull out the wire from the 12V socket

Behind the panel, the 3 sockets you are interested in

The 2 grey ones have blank ends, which need to be discarded

Remove the green socket, then pull it through from the outside. This wire can also be discarded.

The instructions say to push the new cable through from the outside but its easier to pull from the inside! Clip plugs to metal chasis.

Re-seat the seal, which is simple. You then have 5 connectors on the outside. Shortest is for the PDC, 2nd shortest for the lights, the rest for the towbar electrics. There is another blanking plug to remove for the PDC

Drop the remaining wire/connectors down the hole behind the bumper

White earth leads to chasis. This is where you will need the pliers or the correct socket tool. There was also no way it would match the schematic for placement, so don't worry if it can't, it will still work.

Run the fuses into the area under the floor but easiest to remove the tailgate floor panel first.

Where holder should go...

In place

Once the above is done, then it is a matter of running the wires along the bumper bar, connecting up the matching wires and hiding up behind the bumper, away from the exhaust of course! Because it was cold and the ground was wet, didn't take any pictures but self-evident as there is not a lot of options.

Finished product & lights working

Hope that helps anyone doing this install

You don't need to disconnect the battery, but on your 3.0 you will need to have them enabled for them to work. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Arctic Frost

So I bought a loom to do this some time ago and only recently got to having a go. The loom I bought has an inline cable for each of the lights and two grey plugs to go behind the left panel (no green plug on the loom). The actual tow sockets are not wired so the loom has two sets of coloured cables to plumb in. When I went to fit it I found I seem to have electrics. At least partially. The grey plugs behind the panel are connected to cables running off. There is a set of six fuses in the boot. After some crawling around I've spotted three sockets up behind the bumper. Not very accessible without bumper removal. So... Should I get and tear it all out and fit the loom I bought or is there a kit that will plug into the three sockets behind the bumper? Not sure how long those sockets have been open to the elements. Might be ok?

It's a 2006 4.2 V8 supercharged petrol.
