I'm new to diesels myself but my guess would be glow plugs. Is it taking longer than usual to pre heat? It maybe that it's not getting hot enough and the cold diesel cools it down before it can light it.

Had the same prob with my 2006 HSE. Lucky for me the prob was solved after a new battery. To many short trips with a diesel and the battery are empty in seconds.... RRS 2006 2.7 HSE |

Modern diesels will start without heating due to direct injection and higher compression unless its minus stupid degrees. If it fires its not glow plugs, sounds more like damp in a plug or sensor. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
