SDV6 Reliability, problem free?

Are the newer SDV6 Sports proving to be more reliable and problem free than previous models?

After a test drive at the weekend I am thinking of changing my '08 3.6TDV8 HST for one, the new 8 speed box seems to have made the V6 engine very close to the V8 now and the new interior is really nice.

White also looks realy good with the Autobiography kit fitted.

Problem free? No. Better than they used to be? Probably.

Which? recently did a reliability survey and the RRS didn't do well. It scored about 67% compared to the best in the 4x4 group which scored 98%.

The 8-speed gearbox has been roundly praised in the media tests I've read. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The SDV6 isn't really old enough yet to show any signs of unreliability, there has been a few little niggles though Shocked Rear tailgate not opening correctly (configuration required) dealers aware of it. Steering wheel out of line by about 20%. One member on here had a problem with the gear selector failing and unable to operate, 4 wheel alignment has been a problem from factory with many members including myself Whistle Another issue ive heard of is an accelerator problem with a couple of members (delay in pick up) Other than these few issues i havn't heard of anything too serious. but as i said its early days.

On the face of it, I cannot complain, I've not returned to the dealer in coming up to 12 months.

But,........ I've had to get the wheels aligned (was easier to go to a local place for £50) and the car is suffering with hesitant acceleration every now and then (very rarely, but enough to be of concern). I'm hoping these will be sorted out when it goes in for its first service at the end of the month.

Ad Ady says, there is also the powered boot fault, but I've not suffered with that.

Overall, it's a 9.5/10 from me. Cool ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I've had mine a couple of months now and to date there's been various intermittent faults;

Tailgate failed once then rectified itself
Screen has gone blank a couple of times
It's pulling slightly to the left
There's a feint 'thud' coming from the front when pulling away

All the above are/will be being investigated by the dealer who seem fairly pro active at the moment.

Having said that it's my first RRS and i'm loving it, the drive is great, the presence on the road is superb, the inside is just, well, lovely! and the power delivery is quite remarkable for a big heavy car (& that's from someone that's owned a BMW535d for the last 5 years!!) Owner of MY13 RRS Red Edition, Santorini Black, Ebony with Lunar, Privacy Glass & Exterior Design Pack

When driving in a straight line the steering wheel is about 20 degrees turned to the right (in my case anyway) Whistle So if i straightened the steering wheel up to dead centre while driving my motor would veer off to te left.

Mine wasn't the steering wheel, but the rear near side wheel being toe out, causing the car to drift/veer (depending on speed) right when the wheel was held straight. I'm sure the helpful chaps at LPR would have sorted it for me, but for around £50 I had it aligned at an independent. To be honest, it'll cost me best part of £50 to get to LPR in fuel. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Mines not that bad, in fact i didn't really notice it, it was my brother that drove it & said he thought it was pulling to the left ever so slightly!, when i then drove it i agreed, when you let go of the steering wheel (not advised before all you politically correct types start Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing ) it does 'wander' over to the left.

LR are going to look at it, and will align it FOC under warranty Mr. Green Owner of MY13 RRS Red Edition, Santorini Black, Ebony with Lunar, Privacy Glass & Exterior Design Pack
