Warranty Direct quote: £620, franchised dealer, 13 months cover (if paying all up front, otherwise 4 interest free payments but 12 months cover), no betterment (saving 10% on parts as car has over 60k miles) - had to haggle for that.

Get "airbags & emissions" thrown in as well, covers EGRs. Otherwise bang on. Just renewed my D3's cover for £30 less, obviously they think RRS drivers are better rewarded. |

Warranty Direct have quoted me £555 for Extracare, with ICE and airbags and emissions. The quote is for non-main dealer labour rates, but this suits me better as the Land Rover independent specialist I use is 1 mile from my house and the main dealer is 15 miles, might see what it is to have the main dealership cover then I can have the option of which garage to use |

WD stated my car must be serviced by LR approved dealer if I take out Franchise warranty. Even if there are specialist services in the book, from taking the warrany out, going forward it's LR servicing only... Can be quite costly if like me, you have used independents, particularly if you need timing belt replacement any day soon. I think I'm going to stick with the cheaper independents warranty. WD say they will deal directly with your chosen garage, unlike the Franchise warranty where you have to pay and claim in most cases. Thanks for the emissions, bags & ICE advice! |

A bit of confusion there mate - I'm not referring to manufacturers warranty, this relates to Warranty Direct's product. They can stipulate whatever restrictions they like if you take the WD Franchise warranty. |

if your car is less than 5 years old and less than 75,000 miles get the LR official extended warranty (the price difference with even the best independent ones appears to be around £200)

Interpreted: "If your car is less than 5 years old and less than 75,000 greater than 5 years old or greater than 75,000 miles then please buy a new car" How much alcohol have you had tonight!!! |

By this logic (and I use the term quite wrongly - to quote Stephen fry) everyone needs to buy a new car?? I think I will get possibly another year out of my 2005 before I need to sell it, of course I may want to sell it before then, but with only 44000 miles I think it has plenty of miles left to run |

The LR warranty doesn't cover wear and tear. And who's worried? |

Seriously? I like my car, I don't want to buy a newer car (the new Sport is less than 2 years away for a start). I have to question your pricing - the LR product isn't £200 more expensive, it's £200 + 2 hours labour for inspection. At my LR dealer thats an extra £450 in total over the price of a comprehensive aftermarket warranty (which also includes wear and tear cover) - so it's not a like-for-like policy. |

If you time it right you get the extension during a service or just when the original warranty is about to expire = no extra inspection cost. Then the £200 extra is perfectly justifiable for the peace of mind that it will pay out in the event of a normal claim as opposed to the inherent risk with any 3rd party warranty.

Nah mate - my next service is due in 9000 miles, so there is a 2 hour labour charge.
A failed starter motor - that's a straight forward failure, so it is covered with or without a wear and tear clause. I know this, mine failed a year ago and it was covered, no w&t clause.
I've claimed 4 times in the last year under the Autoprotect warranty my car was sold with, so I'm aware how expensive things can be. Still, even though LR's aren't that reliable, I'm still not worried - depends on your outlook (I know some people 'can't sleep at night knowing their car isn't under warranty' - not me, I always sleep!). However, I want to insure my car against the larger failures, that's just sensible. The LR product isn't quite as inclusive as you think it is (it's a 3rd party company who provide it afterall, and they want to make a profit just like WD etc), and the wear and tear cover of the Warranty Direct policy makes it a better product in my opinion. Just for clarity, the LR extended warranty isn't the same as the warranty you get with a new LR. |
