Hi people!

I have a question about the spare tire compartment that’s situated under the RRS in the back; does it have space enough to contain a 20"?

In the PDF from the Swedish LR-site it says that the "full size alloy spare wheel” option (which is about €200) is only available "up to 19". My dealer though says he can make sure I get a full size spare for my 20” 10-spoke which I have decided to go for on my SE.

Please, RRS-gurus, enlighten me!

I think all the cars that have 20" wheels as standard have a space saver spare, I haven't heard of anybody with a full sized spare wheel who has 20" wheels 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If a 20 isn't able to fit get a 19 - it'll mean you can go faster & further than with the space saver. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I remember this discussion some time ago - I couldn't find the specific thread, however I'm sure it was confirmed a 20" wont fit in the compartment under the back of the RRS

I found a post from Bobby stating he managed to fit a 20" wheel in there, however the tyre was completely flat

I took my standard 19 inch out and fitted a 20inch on stormer alloy, no problem some of my Previous cars

well there you go - proof that you can fit one

I think you'll find that the reason they only put a 19 under the back is because of where the stoppers are for the wheel against the car. If you put a 20 under there, the actual wheel is sitting on the stoppers rather than the tyre and i don't think it would take too long sitting under the rear of the car to make some pretty good marks on your alloy

Having just experienced this the other day.....

Have both a nail and a cut in the sidewall so had to put the spare on.

It is a black, Disco-type wheel but with yellow stickers on saying restricted to 50mph/80kph - Why? It is a pukka, full size tyre. Is it the wheel?

LR Cyprus have said that a 20 will fit, but may get damaged (As said above). The winch system for raising/lowering the spare is very clever but in order to use, you must remove any centre caps.

BTW, I am awaiting a price for a replacement 20" Conti.

Michelin Diamaris 20" is CY£240 (GBP£292) - GULP

I am assuming that as I only replacing 1 tyre, I will have to use like for like.

Could it be something to do with dynamics................. a (relatively) light alloy on one end of the axle and a heavy steel wheel on the other, could cause problems with the rear part of the 4wd system at higher speeds.

I beilieve that with cars with the Haldex 4wd (VW/Audis) and with the Volvo 4wd system that if you have to replace any one tyre then you should also replace the other 3 at the same time otherewise the 4wd system can be damaged by having different rolling diameters on the axle ends, causing transmission wind-up. Same reason why if you have a diff-lock you should not use it on high grip surfaces.................... the result is usually a very loud bang, as the transmission unwinds! (often expensive too!)

Any professors of physics/ mechanics on the forum care to comment?
