My wheels get black stuff on them pretty fast. I got a car wash yesterday and today my front wheel already has black stuff all over it. What is this stuff is it coming from the break pads? Is anyone else noticing it? Its pretty hard to keep the wheels clean

That'll be brake dust. No stopping it I'm afraid. It's always worse on the fronts. You can get cleaners that get it off quite quickly. You can also get coatings that make it easier to remove. It's worthwhile cleaning off frequently as it can get very difficult to remove if it's left on too long. If you've time it's also good to remove the wheels every so often & do the inside of the rims too. You'd be amazed at how much better the wheels look. This also gives you the chance to give the wheel arches a real good clean. HSE TD6 (Java Black/Ivory)

Thats odd, I have never had anything like this before on my other cars. But then again all my other cars have been lexus. Is there anything I can do, like get a different type of break pad or something?

I hardly get any dust on my TDv6SE even when it gets driven quite hard. The last RR and the Freelander I ran there was always a lot of brake dust on the front wheels even after a short drive. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

if you use tire black, spray your wheels with a window cleaner and wipe absolutely dry. Tire spray helps brake dust stick like glue. With properly cleaned wheels, a mile soap on cool wheels will allow 95% of your dirt to be hosed away!

Yes, Tyre dressings attract the dust. As the wheels spin the vortices sucks in air , pulling the tyre dressing onto the alloy wheel, where the dust then settles and bakes on.

I always give my alloys a coat of good wax to keep them cleaner, makes them easier to clean off and also prevents build up and long term brake dust damage.

Beware of some wheel cleaners being FAR too acidic and eating away at the lacquer coating though, especially if the wheel is damaged or scratched as it will get under ther surface and cause havoc. L319 D4 HSE
