Massive Oil leak

Hope you're all doing well today.

I recently won a 2011 Range Rover Sport HSE at an auction. The vehicle was listed with no faults on the report. When the forklift dropped it off in front of me, everything appeared fine. I checked the engine bay, plugged in the battery, started the car, and tested it by moving forward and backward—everything seemed normal.

However, after about 15 minutes of idling, I noticed oil leaking onto the floor. I immediately shut off the engine and took some photos and videos of the leak.

I suspect that the forklift may have damaged the sump or a coolant-related component, but I can't be certain that the fault was there before. I've already raised a complaint with the auction house, and they are investigating further. The car remains at the yard for now.

Based on your experience and from looking at the pictures and videos, what do you think could have happened? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Videos link

I'm still amazed about the bit where a forklift dropped it off.

As there's a missing "sump guard" under the engine bay, it suggests someone has already been looking for the issue before getting rid. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks. No guards, but it did catch my eye. In the last MoT advisory, an oil leak was noted (not excessive), but I thought this was a common RR problem—just not to this extent. The case is still under investigation with auction house. Do you think it’s worth taking the risk to fix this issue or should I walk away? Got this for £2400.

Oil leaks aren't a common problem. Quite simple, really.

Trays missing is a red flag ...needs the bottom power washed and then you can locate the problem.
£2400 is cheap cheap cheap so get it fixed.

If it was sold with No faults then you could mend it an sue the seller ..obtaining a sale by misrepresentation is a criminal offence. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Dont spend money on old cars you will never get it back

Hi, thanks for your response. They got back to my complaint on Friday with the typical terms and conditions reply, stating that 'as a buyer,' I must satisfy myself by arranging a viewing before bidding. Essentially, they are saying I should have paid £10 to view the vehicle unless it was advertised without any faults (listed as 'runs and drives' with Primary Damage: Minor Scratches). However, they are completely ignoring my concern about the damage caused by their forklift. I am now waiting for their response again.

Cars aren't designed to be picked up by forklifts. It's quite simple, really. And if they don't have the correct equipment to pick up a vehicle, they shouldn't be doing it at all - other than stuff being scrapped in which case it matters not one jot. But something that's sold as a runner, forklifts just aren't acceptable. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
