Dab Gremlin?

Can anyone advise on my issue with Dab,

Its not worked for 18months so I have Just got around to replacing the module which fixed it kind of,

It will work if you turn ignition on and work when you start motor on Dab setting but once engine is started you have to turn volume left or right once for volume to appear or its muted.

But then if you select another source like radio fm or cd then you can not select dab again until gou turn engine off Or if you start the car not on dab you cant use it, Has anyone had this or can advise what you think might be the issue?

Hello,

its quite possibly the DAB module that's faulty, you can buy refurbished units on eBay from a seller called 'stockclearancecbc'.

I tried numerous swap outs of amplifier x3 in side windows, DAB antenna on roof to no avail.

Ended up buying the DAB module and off it went, good as new.

Cant say this is your exact problem, but for £150 its worth a punt.

Cheers

Dean

Spent the last couple of hrs reading up on this on various forums as my 2010 also has pants DAB.

Turns out the new standard is DAB+ and you can fit a DAB+ unit to a car that had an original old school DAB module.

Ordered one off eBay and will report back on how I get on. Don’t want to give out part nrs in case I’ve got the wrong bit.

That sounds great if it works let us know asap, Mine is working however, When i selct dab it wont turn on until i press off dial then turn it back on and dab will select but i then have to turn the volume dial one turn left or right and it works fine, So theres a quick work around but im thinking it might be a fault with the unit, I bought it off ebay from a salvage place so i doubt they test them. I can return it but only have a week left to return which i will if the dab+ module works. If you can let us know the part number. Cheers

I guess the dab+ is from the l494?

L/R used to do a kit to upgrade from DAB to DAB2, not sure if still available, but had the usual L/R overpriced tag of £500.00+ Rolling with laughter

Ouch, Think i will stick with this buggy one for now, unless i can get the dab+ from a salvage yard and its a straight swap over.

The stupid thing is from L/R just the receiver on it's own, is nearly twice the price of the upgrade kit with wiring and receiver.

DAB+ module arrived today, but too blummin cold to go rooting around in the boot and working with wiring. I also need to make an adapter cable as the connections on old DAB and new DAB+ are different.

Parts are on the way for that,

The LR cables are like hens’ teeth, so some fiddling is needed.

Not guaranteed to solve my problem, but keeping fingers crossed.

DAB+

I'd be interested to see how this goes to be honest.

I had a right ballache getting my DAB working again, after replacing the shark fin, 3x amplifiers in the rear windows and the DAB module itself.

I've read about the DAB+ retrofit.

Can you tell us how you came across the kit and any information as to how it'll work or improve on things DAB wise and any wiring info.

Thanks

Dean

I’ll share everything once I know it works. Away this weekend, but hopefully will get some time on Sunday weather permitting.

Update and success !

Assuming your DAB module is faulty (they pretty much all are these days), you need a new DAB+ module from a later JLR model (Jag, Range Rover etc). The model number is CPLA-14F720 with a couple of letters afterwards. The last 2 letters I believe aren’t important.

You will either need to dismantle part of the loom to the DAB unit and install one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305726113556?ga...QrFUAAAAAA or for a third of the price, use this kit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135528730041. Needless to say I went with the latter. It’s probably the same amount of time to install both, but the cheaper version comes with full instructions and a couple of spare trim clips, which I needed.

The DAB+ modules go for around £100 on eBay but are a really worthwhile upgrade. I wired mine up, restarted the car and DAB was instantaneous, with no searching, which is a first !

When you say dismantle part of the loom, can you confirm what needs to be done?

Or rather the second option you’re saying which doesn’t need the loom splicing do you mean?

The second link with the instructions doesn’t work as the other guy has said, can you let us know what the link is please?

I’m guessing once fitter it’s plug and play????

Does it fit in the same part of the boot as the old DAN unit did? Do you have any pictures etc?

Cheers Dean

Apols - try this link https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135528730041

The existing loom/harness seems to be taped up with lots of other cable and the back connector goes somewhere I couldn’t see and as I was using the above kit, didn’t really investigate too much to be honest. Using the more expensive lead would mean un-taping the existing loom, tracing back the wires and re-taping after connecting up. There’s a couple of those trim clips which hold the wiring harness to the body, so those would need to be undone and replaced as well if you’re doing the job properly.

The above kit comes with detailed instructions, but it’s a simple case of cutting the existing wires, crimping on the new connectors, popping them in the connector block in the correct orientation and reinstalling into the new DAB+ unit.

The new DAB+ unit has exactly the same mounting position and bolts etc as the old one, the only difference is the green connector.

Edit - it was literally plug and play !

That link works perfect, Im happy cutting the old plug off and then its just crimp the new one on and plug and play, Easy upgrade and all for £86 i think this is an upgrade well worth doing, Virgin chilled on dab+ buzzing 😃 Thanks Jonny for the info.
