Hello all

I have purchased an Apple CarPlay module, which has now arrived. I thought I would post up my installation step by step, blow by blow. both positives and negatives.
I will post progress with full photos, so hopefully this may help other if they choose this route.

Lets start with the product purchased.

This was ordered on the 31st December and delivered on 7th January. not too bad a lead time.

I found the YouTube tutorial extremely helpful and one of those plastic trim removing tools would be useful (or an old kitchen spatula would do it)

I can confirm the installation is complete and took less than an hour including a cuppa.

I do have one issue to resolve and that is sound, more details to follow.

So here we go.

1) The patient



The section with the clock and ignition button is held on with clips and no screws, so it 'simply" pulls off.

in reality you need to open the top glove box and use a trim tool to leaver it off an one end them work your way along.



When you have it clear unplug the ignition, clock and mode selection looms. Remove the panelled store safely

Now time for Torx 20 screw removal. Initially there are 6



the 4 on the Vents will then allow you to just lift out the Vents out and store safely. Once the vents are out, this will reveal 2 either side of the screen at the top. once these are taken out the screen will lift out.

remove by manoeuvring from the bottom first, might need a bit of a wiggle but its pretty simple once you try.
Then unplug all of the wires on the back and store the screen.

You now have a huge space staring at you



No need to label each plug as they are colour coded and only fit in one place.

Next is what I found to be one of the hardest parts, unplugging the main large loom from the back of the CD head unit.

Now is time to start installation of the kit.

Main loom first, I went for the largest plug back into the CD/Head unit, again a faff to get it in, the right angle and getting fingers in was challenging to say the least, Then click it was in.

the original loom then goes into the female plug on the new loom.

I decided it was now a good time to mock the whole set up together and test. to do this I removed the start button from its panel and plugged it onto its looms.



its pretty self explanatory what goes where, the one that throws you is the original Blue square video plug is now redundant and not used. a new one runs from the screen to the new control module in the kit.

once all was put together I pressed the start button to the accessory position.



and there it was...Alive... BUT off set to the left on the screen.

A quick check of the instuctions lead me to switch jumper 5 to on.

Time to put it all back together.

up under the dash pad behind the screen is the perfect slot to put the module. so in it went. a tidy up of the wires and routing the USB cable into the top glove box.

then in with the screen top in first and then the bottom.

Oh and how did the jumper switch work?





Then the vents and finally connect the clock start button and nav controls and finally freed the whole panel back into place.

All so smooth and simple to do, and happy with the install...

HOWEVER

Currently I have no sound from Apple CarPlay coming through my speakers, Checked and doubled check all connections and nothing wrong.

phone is disconnected and forgotten by the Cars internal system.

I have contacted the supplier for help.

Update to follow

My Carplay is an entirely different unit but to get sound from the system I had to insert a dummy plug into the Aux port and then select Aux from the Audio menu.
Not sure if you can do that with yours though. Can you still get the original settings menus, 4WD info on your screen?

Yes, all the original screen controls are there except NAV,

Instructions to say to have the system set to AUX but still no Joy

What does the dummy plug look like other do?

It is basically an earphone plug with the wires connected together as far as I can tell.
The same thing also needs to be done with the "Tesla" style additions for Carplay.
If you have an old headphone jack just cut the wires and join them to see if it works.
Good luck, looks to be a nice system. Mine was much more complicated to do.

It may be different but on the idcore if I remember right you had to plug a lead from the unit into a 3.5mm jack plug to get sound through the speakers via Aux, initially I used the jack plug under the flap in the rear before I wired it in to the harness.
