What is the year & mileage?

If you have FSH with Land Rover, you could approach them for a goodwill claim? --

I think you still have a chance here: take it to the last LR dealer you used and request a goodwill claim. --

Sorry to hear this , you must be devastated, how landrover ever got away with this catastrophic failure I will never understand, as said see if you can get something out of them but I wouldn’t hold your breath on it. Land Rover should have been taken to court over this.
Good luck

To put this one to bed

I spoke to 4 different garages about the problem and an engine builder.

I won't mention the many experts on Facebook talking complete rubbish

The engine builder was interesting, as he had knowledge of the Lion V6 problems but does not work on them. He gave me 30 minutes of his time offering suggestions and pointers to look out for.

The main point being "do not fit Chinese or Turkish pattern crankshafts" the are very difficult to balance properly and often fail.

Of the 4 I spoke to only one gave me the same independent narrative about what can and cannot be done with a broken engine.

As it happens the crank had not broken but I had spun a bearing.

A new block, secondhand block, was sourced and the original crank reused as it was not damaged.

I have not had the car back a week and covered 700 miles so far. All good.

Fingers crossed for the future!

The company I used : - Oval Auto's, as recommended on here by Andy K.

Does this ever happen to Ford, Jaguar and Citroen?

Following on a bit - from what I’ve gleaned from speaking to those in the know, a snapped crank can result in a warped engine case. This then makes the case junk, but apparently it’s the rods that are the problem, as you can’t get them, so to rebuild an engine, you need to cannibalise good rods from another broken engine.

feel very sorry for this chap, first time I hear of this in an F-Pace: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showt...ost5259042

Quote:
2017 F-Pace 3.0d AWD R-Sport
Serviced at JLR Stellenbosch in March 2024 at 82000km. Engine packed up at 84000km in May 2024 while driving 30km/h in a residential area. Initial quote was ZAR370 000 to replace engine. JLR stellenbosch offered to assist ~R70 000, putting cost of repair at R300 000

Assessment from JLR
The common fault we have encounter with these engines (3,0 TDV6) is that the crank shaft main bearings turns within the casing, when this happens
The oil supply to the bearings are then cut off causing bearing failure and then complete crankshaft failure. The crank shaft then breaks internally
Distorting the engine block causing irreparable damage to the engine assembly.
