Excuse my zero knowledge.

I like the end job, but could the pipes be replaced with a flexible braided hydraulic pipes with the couplings or wouldn't the couplings fit through the gap? MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

I reckon they would fit through the gap ok and as long as the pipe is rated above say 450-500 Bar (that gives a safety margin above the max operating pressure of the system). It would need to be secured to the chassis as you wouldn’t want a flexible pipe snagging on anything. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Out of interest, did you fit dampers or leave it as it was without them? Kev

Is that a question for me?

I didn’t fit them as I read in the WS manual it said to remove and dispose of as they are not required. I have a feeling that they didn’t fit them after a certain VIN and made it a retrospective action to not refit them if removed on older vehicles. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Hi Britplumber, hoping to get some help and advise based on your repair on the hydraulic pipes on your range rover. i have the lower pipe corroded, can you help me with...

1. What size pipe do I need? is it flexible or fixed?
2. What type of coupler?
3. how do i cut with a regular saw?

Thanks for the advise and support

How do I cut these pipes? Angle grinder hand saw, is there risk of filings getting into the system?

If the pipes are quite rust will the compressor fitting still fit?

Going to a hyraulic place this afternoon, is flexibl pipe better? what thickness pipe and bore?

Thanks

Yes you can, but I’d go for Stainless as the price difference is minimal. Also, you will need to cut back to area with no corrosion so the olives can seal. Any pitting or ovality in the pipe risks a leak. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Hi Britplumber,

Many thanks for all your input to the others on here with this issue which I have as well - I've recently bought a RRS 2010 vintage - bought it as a 'good deal' with no MOT Laughing but...

It's since failed MOT on the same issues you and the other guys in this thread have had, i.e. hydraulic fluid spraying everywhere! Someone had attempted to replace a section of one of these pipes with rubber hose which had split - my local non-specialist RRS mechanic tried to replicate that with new and better rubber hose which of course failed as well.

I've done a fair bit of research now (which I should have done before I bought the car, I know...), talked to many people and was close to giving up hope but then came across this forum and your posts and now have a bit more confidence that I have another choice other than paying 2-3k for a specialist/main dealer repair or selling it for spares/as a non-runner. Really hate to give up on anything so although head says get rid, heart says it's a great car to drive and why should I let a foot long section of pipe defeat me?!?

Sorry for the saga but I feel a lot better about things now - I just need to get down to the job.

I notice you live in Sleaford as well so may well pass you on the road when I have my RRS up and running - I may pm you as well with further tech queries as I get down to the job.

Thanks again,

Dave

Hi again Britplumber,

Just wondered if the WS manual you referred to earlier was a Haynes one or a genuine LR one?

Cheers,
