FBH - Diesel dripping from exhaust connection

Hi Folks.

I've been trying to resolve an intermittent fbh issue, whereby it sometimes fires and other times doesn't.

ACM-Audio System

U0166-00 - Lost communication with auxiliary heater control module (6Cool

AHCM-Auxilary Heater

B1D31-94 - Flame detected prior to normal operation - Component failure - unexpected operation (2C)

Whilst trying a few things, I've noticed that diesel is dripping out of the exhaust on the fbh where the exhaust port joins the concertina exhaust pipe and down onto the inner wing.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to resolve it. I'm assuming it's when the heater is priming as there's is no leak whilst it's running, when it rins that it.

Many thanks

It's dripping fuel because it has failed to start and you have unburnt fuel which has failed to ignite.

Cheers

Had the exact same issue,, but mine would smoke like mad as the heater was still igniting a lot of the time. I found the ceramic insulator that houses the glow plug at the top of burner core was cracked,, and actually fell to pieces when I stripped it down. 2010 RRS, TDV8

I removed my fbh on Friday, stripped and cleaned it. Luckily the ceramic was intacted still.

It dripped when trying to fire it up after refit, but it did the same before removing it.

Many thanks

That code to me indicates there may be a fault with the flame detector/sensor part of the glow plug, but that is only guess, I don't know for certain.

Hi Col,

Well, since the strip down and clean up at the weekend, touch wood, so far the fbh has been working correctly and with little or no smoke at present for the past couple of days, which is more than it did before.

Now, to find out what that bloody metallic scraping noise is when I pull away, sounds like something rubbing on either a brake shield, or perhaps, even one of the metal covers underneath, maybe the rear prop centre bearing is loose !

Many thanks

Check you haven't just got a stone lodged between backplate and disc etc. before you get to excited about things.

Cheers

Yes will do.

It's strange, sometimes it happens and then other times it doesn't.

I had a stone stuck between a caliper and a disc on another car, years ago, that really squelled !

Many thanks
