the gearbox will work, however....you have to swap over the mechatronics control, or programe a new one.

I’d be curious if you could put a 6HP28 from a 3.0 TDV6 or 5.0SC in it. They are stronger gearboxes. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

I think the TDV8 used an already stronger gearbox - the same as the 4.2S/C with an additional pinion gear and clutch plates to handle the extra grunt. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If the gearbox is from a similar engined car, and of the same year, it will work without any programming.

I changed just the megatronic unit (which is the only bit that programming affects) in a SDV6 Disco 4, to that from a SDV6 Range Rover Sport, both 2011, and without programming it worked without issues.

Extract from a 2010/2011 workshop manual, assuming the manual is accurate of course, a earlier version does also mention same version box in the 4.2 S/C.

Cheers

It’s the same with the 3.0TDV6/5.0SC 6HP28 trans, they’ve been upgraded in the same way, but you get the better 6HP28 that resolved a lot of the 6HP26 problems and has a higher nominal torque value. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
