United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

Sorry to jump on this thread, it's been good reading.

I purchased a RRS with an EPB/handbrake issue and the flashing P on the dash. Long story short, someone had clearly been in and playing with it as the handbrake shoes were missing one side, and the EPB had screws missing.

I've followed Bodsys bible but I'm getting a 3-5second screech from the EPB when I apply the handbrake. It's had discs, pads, new shoes, a cable on one side and cogs in the motor.

Handbrake applies fine, no errors on dash. And releases fine with no noises. Occasionally, after 20 seconds of being applied the EPB makes a random 1 second screech.

I've not yet completed the bedding in proceedure as I thought best not to...

Could anyone shed any light?

I have a video of the EPB applying with the screech of rhat helps at all?

Many thanks for any suggestions

Go through the adjustment procedure again and make sure everything is where it belongs. Screeching means it’s getting near the end of the shaft. The later screech is the brake applying more pressure since it’s not tight enough.

Could be they also screwed up the EPB or something isn’t routed correctly or seated correctly. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Thanks for coming back to me so swiftly...

I've attached (i think) a photo showing the final position of the EPB...it is nowhere near the end...which is puzzling me!

Could this be the EPB unit itself (despite the replacement cogs)?

Need to look at the EPB we have at the shop. Seem to remember a little more grease on it. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Eh up ,

Easy for me to say now post event 🤨

But I paid less than £150.00 for quality parts, with the assistance from everyone on here I managed the job through and it is in fact relatively straightforward.

Take time and read up on stuff , plus loads of good tips on here and if you’re reasonable with a set of spanner’s it’s doable.

Saving of £400 is not to be ignored if you can 👍

Yes, your spot on. I've got the brake Bible all ready. Just wish I had a big enough garage to get it done. I no great rush I suppose.

Think I read a guy in the states was quoted $3,500 by a dealer for front and rear brakes on an L405 (not the disc/drum rear setup we have).

If they’re doing shoes as well as the pads and rotors on the rear it does add a bit of time to the job. And that’s if it goes right. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Nah, just the shoes. I changed the pads and discs about 14 months ago and only travelled 3k in that time. E brake may just want cleaning up and adjusted.

A clean and adjust would be fairly easy to do and realistically all it needs (unless a shoe lever is seized or other such calamity). Is the parking brake making noise when you set it? 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Yeah occasionally. I've bought the shoes and fitting kit etc. It creeps sometimes aswell so I suspect the arm.

If it’s squealing/creaking when you set it, stop using the parking brake till you get it addressed. Otherwise your future post will be about finding the emergency release which probably won’t work and then about cutting the cables to get it mobile. Then about how hard is it to rebuild/replace the EPB module.

It should almost sound like a regular drill putting a screw into wood (not an impact drill, if it sounds like that you’re in trouble).

Did you get genuine shoe clips and pins? I highly recommend them. The pins are usually nasty with corrosion and most shoe clips are on the weak side compared to genuine. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
