Illumination on rear window switches

Eh up all,

Just got back tonight after doing a couple of hundred miles in the car - faultless drive Very Happy

One thing I’ve noticed which is odd Confused

The front window switches all light up , well of sorts, but the back light definitely works if I I adjust the voltage via the adjuster, as do the rest of the interior dash lights etc.

But the rear window switches on both sides do not appear to light up at all - is this normal or are both faulty?

I know LR electronics are odd but are they really this odd Rolling with laughter

Cheers all for any advice

My rear one's light up and can adjust the brightness with the dimmer switch, although none are what you would call exceptionally bright when turned right up, the actual rear window lock switch icon does show up brighter than the actual window switches though on the drivers door switch control panel though, however there is no illumination to the rear switches if the the rear window lock switch is on.

Cheers
Col

Everything lights up on mine as well, window switches and ambient lighting on the levers and handles. Had to replace the left rear door ambient light unit since the handle bit wasn’t working as well as the driver’s window switch since one of the mirror buttons didn’t go red when pressed or the mirrors folded in. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

I guess L/R's logic is if the rear switches are disabled you don't need to see them in the dark. Rolling with laughter

I need to test this on my 2011 since 2010/2011 are like the awkward in between years.

Do the 2012/2013 rear seat map lights come on with the doors? I never paid attention with the ones I’ve worked on. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Eh up NoExpert

Will test when I get back from the pub 😁

Just so I’m clear - open rear doors only and see if centre light comes on ?

Let me know will see if I remember after a few pints Thumbs Up

Cheers

Open either rear door and look for the REAR light (above rear bench side passenger head) lights up. My bet is they don't do it in any L320.

@noexpert: with this on mind, I'm ready to do the harness (or rather: watch as you are doing it Rolling with laughter , let me know if you're free and bored sometime close in the future.) Also - what's the spec for the mood light door LED? One is toast in mine. Regards etc.,

Eh up (“ Evening all” - for those who remember where that phrase comes from ! ! )

Well tried the car, approached car locked, pressed open and just opened rear doors - nothing at all no lights in the consol above the rear view mirror and nothing in the consol above the drivers head in the roof line !!! Confused

I’ll be honest not even registered the one above the drivers seat Whistle

What should happen and when should the centre one work ??????

I’m now intrigued as to what is this unit does does - or what it should do !!!!! Neutral

Happy to take another lesson in the idiosyncrasies of the L320 Rolling with laughter

Cheers all

I could be wrong. But assuming you haven’t turned the front light off. (Hold button for 10sexonds till it flashes)

When you open the doors or boot the front roof light should come on.

The point previously questioned was, is the rear roof dark? Not the whole car!!! Mods: FaceLift/D4 Sat Nav Display and reverse camera. BT. Remote FBH. Parking light switch position. Rear reading light activated by doors.

Eh up

Andy K - I’m confused which don’t take much

So my lights are on auto , I didn’t start that car just opened it up.

What’s the button You refer to that need to hold for 10 seconds Confused

I’m assuming the roof lights are the ones above my head if I’m sat in the drivers seat not the ones above the rear view mirror

Scrumps - cheers seen that and with my elevtrical knowledge I’m staying well clear Rolling with laughter

The button u hold is on the front roof light.

The one that turns the big light on
And off.

If the lights not coming on with the front doors.

It saves the battery though

No, they don't unless you do the wiring mod same as on previous years.

The interior lights, whether off or on auto have no bearing on the front and rear window switch light illumination, the switch illumination only works if ignition is on and lights are switched on.

No lights at all when you opened the rear door? Should get the front center light, front footwell lights, cargo light and the puddle lights under the rear doors coming on, if the lights are set to on with the doors open (hold the center button a few seconds, as previously mentioned).

As for draining the battery, they shut off automatically after a bit of time to preserve the battery.

The unit overhead in the center is an interior sonic sensor for the alarm. No lights in it.

@Col, thanks for that. Wasn’t sure if LR updated that along with the other stuff in 2012/2013. I know it has no bearing on the window switch lighting, it was just a curiosity of mine.

@TheWojtek, I’ll dig up the stuff needed for the rear lights and we’ll figure out a weekend, preferably one that’s not raining or windy. I’m not sure what the spec is on the ambient lighting LED’s, I replaced the whole assembly. It was cheaper to buy a trashed rear door card and get the lighting module from it than buy a new module by itself.

@scrumps, I used to live not too far from you up in Bristol. While I’m not much of a drinker I do very much miss the cider there. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
