the other reason that may be happening is a crack in the plenum cover

I had this on mine was a simple fix, follow the vacuum pipes on drivers side to back of engine, there is a Y joint in pipe, mine was broken, found out when I tried to pull apart to test vacuum and it fell apart, replaced with a new joint fixed instantly! Hope you have the same luck |

Sounds like they've left a vacuum pipe off

Sorry I don't have any pictures, the joint was right at the back by the vacuum pump, there are two pipes coming off the pump, one goes to the brake servo and the other has the joint in going across to the other side of the engine |
