Evening all

So yeah had my RRS 2010 HSE serviced at an independent LR specialist garage whom have a pretty good reputation locally. Anyway paid £600 for a full service which includes a 50 point check up.

I was informed the following on the notes (see attached) and then the garage contacted me earlier and asked if I wanted the RRS to be booked in for some follow up work in priority order. The exact message I got was:

“Hi my technician says that the first thing to sort out is the rear suspension arm and the front suspension arm. It might be better to do these at the same time as we have to carry out 4 wheel alignment every time we change an arm. The estimate for this is £996 inc VAT.”

Does this sound reasonable for the work and does it match the attached photo of advised issues ?

"checked and topped up the axles, transfer box and gearbox"
are you sure they have done this if so the cost might not be that much out

I would want confirmation of what Exactly they will be changing and with what type of bush, upper, lower, bush and arm wise, if its both sides front and rear and alignment then it does sound in the right ball park, I would get another quote (like for like) if spending that amount,

Ask how they checked the gearbox level and did they add any fluid, depending on that answer might help you decide.

I did enquire and a Landrover main dealer garage wanted like £850 for a service. This garage was a local independant Landrover specialist garage. They do use genuine Landrover parts for service.

I just got confuse Cause the advisory notes mentioned the bushes and yet the text from them talks about arms for front and back. ???

So the LR specialist garage have quoted me the following to get some of the advisories from the recent service I had done.

you still need to know What exactly they plan on doing before you will know if the price is reasonable or not

Just talking about the front lower arm, is it a complete new arm? all bushes replaced in old arm? just rear bush replaced in the arm?
Bushes OEM or poly type?

I have just replaced an EGR valve, they vary from £24 -£280 all for a new valve
2 prices I had from Indep for fitting an OEM valeo valve was £380 and £480

You need to know what work is planned.

Cheers for this, I will ask for more specifics detail relating to this. I assume for that price it would be full arms but again need them to reassure me of this

I'm so glad I do my own repairs seems even the indies are over charging for repairs now days. I did both front lower control arms plus an inner cv boot on 1 side for less than £165 in parts on my drive. OK on our D3 but basically the same job as its the same parts. Soon todo o/s front lower on my rrs sc.

So yeah as advised by you good folk I’d gone back to the garage and asked what exactly was I getting for the price quoted and the Response was this ,

“No it is just the 2 arms. 1 rear upper and 1 front lower. The upper arm is £120 and the front arm is £160. 5 hours workshop time at £90/ph and 4 wheel alignment £90. All prices plus VAT. It is not a simple job to replace the rear arm. It does not include the D bushes these can be done separately. The bushes are already in the arms best OEM. Just need it for the day for this work.”

What you guys think ? Reasonable

I did think they only use genuine LR parts but for that price I don’t think they are genuine ?

I was recently quoted £280 parts (ex vat) plus 3 hours labour to change both lower fronts (local Indie, non-LR but OEM parts). So it doesn't seem out of whack.

Four wheel alignment definitely needed.

I know they have to make money but I'm sure I did both my front lower arms plus inner cv boot in less time than that on the floor. It's much easier on a ramp .

I also agree about doing both front lower armsxat the same time as the previous owner of my sport only did 1 side so I'm doing the other side my self once the weather improves.

Have you watched a YouTube video on replacing the arms?? Some places have them off and replaced in under an hour

Under an hour? I'm going to assume they are a garage in "not Scotland"

I really would like to see someone replace a front lower arm in under a hour, if the main pivot bolts are rusted solid in the bushes and they have to cut them out with a hacksaw or reciprocal saw. Sometimes you may be lucky and they are not seized other times not so especially on older vehicles, which is why it can take a lot longer.

I got lucky with mine, nothing siezed I'm hoping I get lucky again when I do our new to us D3cand my off side on the rrs. What's the chances? Slim I know.
