I am getting my RRS recovered to a garage by a mate as the engine won't start so gearbox is stuck in park. I've tried searching online but mostly get info on releasing the rear park brake can someone here advise me if there's a manual way to move the gearbox into neutral?

It is the 2012 SDV6 with 8sp with rotary selector, I have power but cannot start so the selector doesn't rise.

There are posts on here about issues with the selector but if you have a non-starter it's probably not that. Should the rotary selector rise if you cycle the ignition without your foot on the brake? Just a thought, I don't know because mines the 6 speed.
I have no idea how you get it into neutral but it needs recovering on a low loader as my understanding is that you will damage the transmission by towing it.

Yes it is going on a low loader, the rear handbrake was left off it's just the gearbox which is in Park.

I guess you could look under the cup holders or even read the owners manual

Should be something that looks like this under the transmission tunnel console cup holder, similar to that shown in the posted video.

That's great, thanks. I was aware of that for the rear brakes but never knew it also did the transmission.

It's not actually the same one as for the park brake release, that is a separate cable tucked away there somewhere.

We got the recovery done and yes the tab under the cup holder sorted it. At the moment it's still at the garage waiting on repair, last I heard they were waiting on a starter motor so hopefully that's all.

Yes I'll need to see about downloading and reading through some manuals, with internet searching these days I tend to forget about those things.
