MOT Failure - Shock Absorber; Movement Excessive

How is the test carried out for this and what exactly does it mean?
Is it that the shock itself needs to be replaced, or is it something like a worn bush?

Hiya, are you able to ask the tester for a more detailed explanation?. I take it you can’t see or feel anything amiss?.

Like you say it’s a bit vague…. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Hi @steve
No, I'm gonna phone MOT to ask for a clarification.

By excessive movement,it could be a worn bush,if that’s the case I would replace both sides at same time. Also I would use poly bushes as they are better & last longer. Andy.

Thanks lads.
It was difficult but I got a call from a mechanic at the test centre today.
Sound lad. He reckoned either the lower or top end must be loose.
He sounded a bit confused and all, and surprised at the vagueness.
He did also say the tester might have seen something when they do that test on the suspension, kinda bouncing it. Though I also thought they stopped doing that. In also though those tests came with specific thresholds and the results had figures, but he said no, tester discretion really.
