Electronic handbrake fault (not engaging)

Hi all,

I've just spent about 2 hours on here looking for a solution to my electronic handbrake issue, but couldn't find anything to answer my problem.

Firstly, there's no screaming noise and it isn't locked "on".

It's simple - if I try and turn it on, it just shows a red error on the dash and a few beeps. I've read the "use it or lose it" comments and I definitely haven't used it enough (at all!). It just doesn't work.

So, my question is: is this a difficult or complicated fix? As it's a RR, I imagine it's not simple but I was hoping to get some advice from you guys as you've saved me fortunes in the past. I've got my MOT here in Spain soon so might need it fixed in advance, although I'm not sure if they'll even look for that here.

It probably needs to have the codes read to make sure there's no pointers there to start with. Otherwise, if it's not applying at all, it's either the EPB module itself or switch/wiring to it. I wonder if a fully seized actuator on one wheel would prevent the whole thing from working or whether it's designed to allow the other one still to work.

Check the codes
Take the rear brakes off and have a look at the brakes and see if they're seized.

Other than that, not much to suggest. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I can’t remeber the symptoms, but I never used my park brake, had an issue and removed the drums.
The friction material had separated from the shoes, took ages to clean out, new shoes and all was fine.

The mechanic told me last week that it's the EPB module that needs changing. Is than an expensive and difficult fix???

For AA000001 (2010) onwards the parking brake module is LR072318

We sell them for £609.56 + tax

For the earlier handbrake module there is a gear repair kit. I'm not sure if there is one for the version you need. Paul Redding
