Tailgate

Have any other owners found that their tailgate will only open just below head high? Will a basic clean work or can I add some oil/wd40? I have nearly knocked myself out several times so far! Crying or Very sad 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Nope - I'm 6'4" and it opens a couple of inches over my head... did it used to open higher?

I've been meaning to mention this for a while. My tailgate stutts dont appear to be lifting the tailgate full up any more. So its as you say, do they need a special clean or some lubricant or perhaps a visit to the dealer for attention Question

Yes, mine is doing the same. The struts hardly lift the tailgate at all now. Matt

Don't think I've ever noticed but are the struts hydraulic? Could be poorly fitting hydraulics... my dad had that issue on a Peugeot once. There was a service bulletin out for their replacement... just checked GTR, no mention there though.

WD40 hasn't made any difference. Even with a good flick, the bood lid only goes up to my neck. You have to give a push to get it to rise to just above head height, but then you could still bang your head. It looks like the gas struts have lost their power (sure not after only six months) or aren't big enough. Matt

Mine has also show this tendency recently.

Let's not forget though that unassisted hydraulics such as these (i.e. not powered by a motor) will run less efficient in colder weather, and it's only since the cold snap mine has done this.

Also, don't forget that if your car is in access height the lifted taligate height will also be compromised. L319 D4 HSE

re tailgate

happened to me today, only raised the top part, turned round and whack, straight into to locking unit. Think it is the cold weather causing oil or gas to thicken inside the ram.
