When you say poor starting or won't start is it that the engine won't turn over or just doesn't fire up?. I know that extremes of cold can affect battery performance, but if the battery is good the temp shouldn't cause that much difference. As Riverblanche says, do you not have a FBH fitted, this would make a massive difference. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Gents, the car turns over if and only if I use it every single day. If it sits for 2 days or more it then plays up.

The FBH heats the coolant.

You have problems other than just your battery - how many glow plug cycles do you go through on start - I go through at least 3 cycles when temps get below zero and it starts fine. We do not have FBH here and from yout comments you need to learn how they work as it will help your starts.

One of the best things I ever did on my car was add the FBH controller. I use it every time I go out in the winter not just to help with starting but on the (unproven) premise that if the car is warmer at start up, there is less strain on engine parts in those first 5 minutes or so. I just click the third button on my key whilst I am finishing my cup of tea and half an hour later go out. And of course once I start the car and drive off, the heater warms up that much quicker.

You do not need to take the battery out to charge it - just make sure the -ive charging cable is on the stud just in front of the battery on the inner guard and not on the - ive battery terminal. Garry 07MY RRS TDV6 Arctic Frost Aspen Interior |

So do I really need to purchase an IID tool as well as the FBH remote? That’s putting a quick ‘cheap’ fix at close to £1000
