New Buyer

How does the 3.0 TDV6 perform in terms of performance, mpg and reliability. Does it suffer some of the turbo issues the 3.6TDV8 suffers from? Any tips and advice appreciated. Started looking so just trying to get some inside info! Thanks

The V6 diesel has issues of its own. It doesn't have the turbo issues of the TDV8 but the TDV8 doesn't suffer from spun crankshaft bearings or snapped cranks. The TDV6 does suffer from the crossover pipe splitting - this is a body off job. My SDV6 recently required this doing and the bill was £1660 including replacing the rear brake lines (a body off job normally so worth doing when the body is already off) and the ARB bushes (because they're a job of minutes with the body off.

Otherwise, they're pretty much the same with the usual suspension bushes etc. needing care. The TDV8 in the UK never got the DPF where V6 diesels did - the SDV6 has DPF, for example. This is one tick in favour of the TDV8.

In terms of performance, the TDV6 is a tick slower than the TDV8, uses a tick less fuel and is similarly reliable.

Drive both and you'll buy the TDV8. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I got all the information I needed from here and went for the TDV8 , absolutely love it best MPG solo 32 towing the caravan 22 & average around 24 on pottering about.
Find yourself a good independent for servicing & repairs , when purchasing one low ownership & a full history will pay dividends. Known expensive problems are the turbos but regular oil changes would help to make them survive longer.

Thanks for tips and advice. Will have a look to see if any TDV8's around, ones I've seen have all been the TDV6. Thanks again.

I think there is a modification for the 3.0 V6 turbo drain
