No reversing camera or parking sensors

Yesterday lunchtime I was parking and all of a sudden (as I went from drive to reverse) I had "Parking Aid Alert. Camera Unavailable. Please Consult Your Dealer". The front and rear parking sensors are inoperative and no reversing camera.

After looking through previous posts, I tried the usual trick including leaving the car overnight and praying to the Range Rover Gods and kneeling before the car - both praying and listening to see if the sensors were clicking (no such luck).

Thinking of taking it to Loughrans of Towcester (very close by Land Rover specialists) and see if they have expertise in the electronics of the L320. Anything I can try over the weekend myself? Unfortunately, I'm no good with electronics but if there is something simple to look at I'd be grateful for forum advice. There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

Thank you Brit Plumber - mirrors drop and reversing lights on. Codes read by Loughrans at Towcester suggests possible problem with the image processing control module (?). Loughrans are having it in next week and all suggestions in advance welcome please! There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

Hi Col! Will check number 31. Would that take out the sensors as a consequence? (Fingers crossed) There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

To be fair don't really know, not being a auto electrician but looking at the wiring diagram for the rear view camera it would appear to be basically controlled by via the front screen somehow there is no mention of it going through a control module, and if it is the single camera not surround it has no "intelligence" so there are no fault codes for it that can be read by L/R at least, so not really sure where the connection with the parking sensors is maybe when reverse is engaged somehow.

Cheers
Col

If you have surround cameras then the IPM B (image processing module B) is under the passenger seat (RHD cars) of 2010 to 2012MY. If the fuse for this blows, you will get a warning for camera system fault on the dash and the parking sensors still work.

If you only have a reverse camera then as Col says, it’s not smart and won’t report faults. The rear camera always transmits the video image but it is only displayed on the screen when you select reverse. The fact that the mirrors dip and the lights come on suggests it’s not a reverse switch or signal issue.

Can you confirm what year car you have and what camera system you have? Full or reverse only.

Thanks Brit - I only have a reversing camera and parking sensors. The car was built May 2012 according to the sticker under the bonnet. I looked this morning at the 5 amp fuse 31 and it appears to be intact. Does that help?

Dont rely on how the fuse looks, I had one that looked fine and I was pulling my hair out until I eventually replaced it and everything worked again. Try replacing it with another fuse as it’s a quick check to do.

As you only have a reversing camera, the camera should provide an image at all times and it’s the FCDIM or screen which switches to the camera view on selection of reverse. You can go into diagnostics to check if the camera is working. I don’t see why both the cam and sensors would fail together unless a common earth or power wire had been compromised. I’ve a feeling there may be common wires in the rear left of the boot.

Thanks again. Have just swapped fuses 51 (steering wheel buttons) and 31 as both 5 amps. Steering g wheel buttons still work after swap and rear camera plus front and rear sensors still out of action.

Like the idea of the common earth or power being compromised as makes sense. I’ll suggest to Loughrans they check here first. Any other likely items to try early on when it goes in (or I can check myself now - like the fuse idea)? There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

As an aside I noted that fuse 31 also deals with the auto wiper sensor. Driving the car this morning the auto wiper is fine. There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

Try checking in the diagnostic screen for a camera image. If you look on YouTube you should find out how to do it if you don’t know.

I’ll take a look at the diagrams tonight. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Hi again Brit - I've accessed the diagnostic screen I think. Here are the screens available:

I took a stab and looked at the CVBS Video Qualities page:

Finally, I looked at the Video link:

Not looking to good!

Hope that this may give you a steer. If I have not yet looked at the right screen then please just say and I will go and look again.

All the best!

I’ve been through the diagrams and I can find nothing in common to both systems other than the CAN indirectly.

You may have 2 separate faults here. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Thanks - the very odd thing is that they both occured at the exact same moment. Squaring myself in a parking bay I reversed (with rear camera and parking sensors), pulled forward to straighten up, and then as selected reverse again the warning came up saying no camera (plus suddenly had no parking sensors).

BTW - what is the CAN? There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley
