MOT day tomorrow and windscreen

Censored !

Tomorrow I have my first MOT and 3 year service, so as due to Covid I have not been doing the mileage recently, I thought it would be wise to take my RRS for a high rev run of including over 40 miles of dual carriageway/motorway whilst using sport mode and holding her in 6th at 70ish.

Then it happened a small sharp stone hit the screen about 1/2 inch left of the driver's wiper and a couple of inches up from the valence, so I am left with a nice "star" approx 35mm across. I had hoped the insurance would do a same day repair, nope..... earliest repair is Wednesday.

I hope she will pass the MOT?

Post a pic of damaged area, chips on screens have changed a lot on mot now,you can have a crack from one side to the other & as long as it doesn’t affect drivers view it’s a pass. Andy.

Hi,

The online MOT guide at this link doesn’t look any different to the original link above - well not to my eyes anyway!

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection...visibility

My reading is damage not affecting the drivers view is a “minor” defect.

If it's out of the way, say very low in the windscreen, and there's not other "real" problems with the car, I'd expect a reasonable MOT tester to make a note of it but pass the car otherwise. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I raised the issue with Portsmouth LR and was advised that it wouldnt be an issue. It is having a "resin injection" tomorrow so hopefully will be invisible afterwards.

Incidentally this is being done on my insurance (LV) at a cost of ÂŁ20 to me (excess). I looked online and Autoglass want around ÂŁ160 if I pay for the job, however Halfords quote ÂŁ30. I would be tempted to go direct to Halfords in future.

I tried to photograph the chip but the photos are unclear with too much reflection. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

Full service and MOT all done - just need the windscreen guy to sort tomorrow and all happy.

One question rear pads down to 4mm at 21k miles is a bit of a surprise especially as the fronts have double that and I would expect them to wear faster? MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)
