United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey
I just can't decide!

I'm looking at buying another RRS. I previously owned a 2007 3.6 TDV8. It had air suspension pump replaced and EGR valves under warranty and apart from that, no problems.

I am now looking at a 2012/13 SDV6 but from doing the usual research, I seem to be reading more horror stories, money pit, poor reliability and many issues which is now putting me off!

My budget would be around £20k and would really like an Overfinch and these are running approx 60/70k miles on the clock. Not sure on servicing costs and frequency yet.

If I had a warranty which pretty much covered everything likely to go wrong, I'd naturally be happier, but don't know what warranty to go for? Any advice? Thanks

I’ve got a 13 plate 3.0ltr SDV6 Black edition with 78k on the clock and it’s never had a fault only servicing has been consumables, ie one set of front discs and both sets of pads while I’ve had it also, ARB bushes paid for by Warranty Direct. Original battery, albeit regularly maintained by my CTEK charger.
My warranty covers everything and costS £106 per month and I’m very happy.

Be careful of the small print in the warranties of cars over 6 years old

i have been looking for warranty for my RRS L320 MY2012

i have been quoted £1100 - £600 , including a % towards all parts used. and a initial contribution towards claims
But they claim to cover all parts including Crankshaft Failures. ( in which case a major saving, even with a 50% contribution towards engine cost )

got to weigh the odds up on how important it is to keep mobile .

What is it about Overfinch that you desire? They often just add bodykits to mid spec vehicles so you're paying a lot for window dressing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Reading about the crankshaft and other large failures, lack of warranty cover, and general reliability, I think I am going to pass now on the RRS. Shame.

I was in exactly the same boat as you. I've wanted a RRS ever since the company i worked for sent us on a team building day back in 2008 i think, one of those Land Rover Experience days.

The thing is most of the time you will only here negatives online because people are searching for problems to issues. The other 90% just enjoy their machines.

Took the plunge back in late feb and bagged one of the very last of the RRS1 SDV6 MY13's and couldn't be happier.

I've spent a couple of grand on things like a full main service (always do when i buy a new car), ARB bushes and a mega flush bodsy did for me. L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography in Chile Red (Current)

That's a valid point, however, do you have cover if you do get a large failure? What's an RRS1?

RRS1 is the original RRS - L320. There was a facelift of it in 2010 which lasted until the aluminium-based RRS2 came out in 2013/14 - the L494. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yeah its the RRS1. Paid £19k for it so similar to you.

I don't believe in voluntary insurance, put £100/month in an account and if you have no faults (which most people don't) after 5 years you've got £6k!

If something goes wrong you've got the money to pay for it, if something doesn't go wrong you've cash on the hip. Its win-win.

I've got a credit card with plenty of room for unexpected issues. L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography in Chile Red (Current)
