When I had steps fitted to my 2016 AB they were not threaded, the same make steps, fitted to my 2019 AB by the same fitter and they were threaded.

I’ve been following this thread for a while - I’ve checked all TOPIX fitting instructions for fixed side steps on L494 from 2015 - 19. None advertise the fact that a thread is needed to be made first. I work on a JLR site in BIW & have never known parts or panels being altered to prevent 3rd party intervention. I would assume the same holes are used for genuine as per replica side steps & would therefore create more work for after service which defeats the object. I am confused |

That is also true Peachy,if you spec side steps when you buy a sport new I’m sure they don’t factory fit them, they fit them at the dealership when car arrives their, surely all the body’s are made the same. Why make some with the holes threaded & some without. Andy.

35 seconds in he mentions the holes have to be tapped and this is a pre 2015 model. He has also made a pig's ear of the cover . |

Those are totally different steps, the brackets I’ve alway fitted are cast alloy & ive never cut the sill cover. These are the proper brackets that LR also use.

That's why I mentioned it was pre 2015.

I’ve just ordered a nice set of fixed side steps and I’m going to fit them today hopefully. I’ve just been under the car for a look and my holes are definitely threaded.. I’m happy because I can’t find a M10 Tap in the garage 🤣 2016 Yulong White L494 AB/DYN 3.0SDV6 |
