Mayle Rear pads/discs?

Anybody used these? Got a metallic rotational noise at low speed and am thinking of a strip and clean of the EPB and may change the discs and pads at the same time. It's from the nearside wheel and can be heard with it off the ground and turned by hand. Plenty of meat on the pads and not seized, I'm hoping it's not the EPB pads, looks like they are a nightmare to change.

does sound like epb shoes or spring come loose

Thanks guys, will go for a strip and lubricate first then. If it needs new discs/pads will try the Meyle Thumbs Up

you may wish to purchase a shoe fitting kit, in case something broke.

should be able to get something cheap on ebay for the D3/RRS

As said, I suspect it’s the EPB shoes liner breaking down. I had the same problem last year and ended up doing shoes, discs (the loose shoe friction material scored the drum surface) and EBC pads. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

You may well be right. Once I get the disc off I will be able to see whats what. I was thinking the worse case would be shoes, discs and pads, in which case AF will be getting an order. Fortunately, we have a van for the dogs and I will just have to use that till they arrive.
I did have a new EPB module fitted about 18 months ago, so hopefully disconnecting the cables should be drama free (famous last words).

The shoes nad inside drum only do the parking brake.

So as long as the shoes look ok, they should last a few more years.


Make sure the shoe pivot lever is greased and not siezed

Well, everybody was collectively right. Disc off and it was apparent what the problem was. One of the clips holding the shoes to the backplate had disintegrated and was floating about in the drum. The shoe had moved and has grooved the inner face of the disc and worn the shoe down to the metal. Clearly not the cheap fix then. Off to Advanced factors for discs, pads, shoes, springs and clips.
I have Bodsy's brake bible on hand and my son who is a maintenance engineer on speed dial.

Quick update, a parcel from Advanced Factors arrived, all stripped down and new shoes, discs and pads fitted. It looked like the pins and clips were original and the remaining ones were near to failure,but all shiny now.
The only downside was that the slider pins were not the correct ones, and the right lower pin was pretty rusty. I have cleaned it up and re-greased it but they need replacing, will have to get back in touch with AF.
Without the brake bible this would have been impossible, as it was I couldn't have done it without my lad on the spanners Bow down
